The Typhoon gave us the day off, I love these things. (In Taipei, not Hualian)

There should be a typhoon BBQ n' Bench day here! I mean, since we are all indoors anyway...

The main point is a lower platform price.

But no HT right? Or am I wrong? Cause to me it just seems like marketing to say you have a i7 but really it's just an i5 since no HT.

    i7-860 and 870 (LGA1156) have SMT (HT)

Perhaps Turbo Mode? Lynnfield can go about 3-4 speed bins higher than its default frequency depending on how many cores loaded..

It's good to get high multi for some single core 2D Bench..

There's also high BCLK possibility, since there's lower QPI multiplier
(i don't know if it now called QPI or DMI, I'm clueless on this one )

And Don't forget the low uncore, so you can push your RAM to really WICKED speed on 1156 * assuming your RAM is a good one, that is *

I am sooo want to buy one of those to test on My sample P55-GD80

Nice. I'm glad cause otherwise it would be a big w-t-f. I'm curious how well it does compared to a i7 920?

S775 and S1366 mounting holes on their board; Asus, Foxconn. It saved some users from waiting for their cooler's backplate, way back when x58 came out.
But sad to say, all the P55 board pics I've seen right now have single(4) mounting hole only.
    A bit off topic
Probably you didn't see pics from Asrock.. They have combo cooler option (COC) for all their 4 boards..
And as far as go are the only ...
Definetly i will buy an Asrock MB because they will be cheap and to me they seem prety decent and more intelligent build..I mean for what to buy another cooler or anothet brackets it they will be? for my FZ120 ZEROTHERM..
The socket aria seems more free, no NB heatsink which covers no chip just a market thing to make you pay more money no "24" phases for 95W Cpus and so on ...
Asrock P55DELUXE and EXTREME are pretty good and i hope that EXTREME would have a price of 139$ because current X58 EXTREME cost 169$

The only difference between DELUXE and EXTREME is that EXTREME use 8 phase VRM.

    Ibex Peak platform
CPU socket 1156, lynnfield compatible with P55 chipset

    Core i7
    870 rated 2.93GHz ( 22x133), max turbo mode at 27x133=3.6GHz , HT supported, 8 threads
    860 rated 2.80GHz (21x133), max turbo mode at 26x133= 3.46GHz, HT supported, 8threads

    Core i5
750 rated 2.66GHz( 20x133) max turbo mode at 24x133=3.2GHz, HT not support, 4 threads

lynnfield supported dual channel unbuffer ddr3 memory, and move IIH into
processor, 2 chipset solution ( CPU+ PCH), QPI bus is a virtual logic unlike
bloomfield, Uncore could be isolate with ddr3, thats why lynnfield can go higher with
memory speed no limited by specificate ratio of uncore

Certain memory manufacturers are even aiming at DDR3 3000 :-/

Another important question: Can turbo mode multiplier be enabled on all cores when overclocking bclk? I guess mobo manufacturer's will do that

That has nothing to do with the (X58) chipset, and the chance are high since the use the same IMC.

Plus they don't require 1.65, it's just a intel recommendation when everythings at stock. When your qpi voltage is within 0.5V of the ram voltage everythings fine.

Intel droped IDE support with the ICH8, all the ide controllers you see are crapy 3rd party ones.
