Could HD5870X2 be a MCM design?

----- AMD RV8XX gossip on some of the actual situation

September 17 in San Francisco issued a formal version of a full range of evergreen.
AMD DX11 graphics chips into high-end, performance, mainstream, entry-四档, high-end, code-named Cypress, the performance of code
Codenamed Redwood, are the mainstream of the two code-named Juniper and Cedar, entry, code-named Hemlock.

And flagship product Cypress uses the MCM design, is composed of 2 Redwood, Redwood chip size 300 square millimeters,
Juniper chip size of 181 mm2, Cedar die size 120 mm2. Currently, AMD DX11 performance and mainstream Products has proceeded smoothly, but the flagship product in the chip package Cypress encountered a little problem, Cypress
May be deferred to the AMD DX11 performance, after the mainstream market

Not meaning to sound like a troll or anything, but this rumour came out before the launch of the HD4870X2
It is wishful thinking but I would LOVE for this to be true as it would bring an end to praying to the driver Gods for good Crossfire drivers or for Crossfire support as the power would be available for EVERY Game out there and the efficiency would be pretty darn good too.
I'll only believe it when I see it.....

if it is MCM then why not 2 MCM packages or 4 redwoods
    may need 2 6 pin & 2 8 pin power

Ill wait for the nVidia version now they have gone with a single PCB design like ATI. The Nvidia drivers are so much better. i love my 4870X2 to bits but the drivers are total crap.

Who knows. I want to see if the side port is still on the Cypress dies. That will be a pretty telltale sign. I doubt ATI would keep useless aspect for the second time.

As for the prediction, its kind of like fudzilla: Keep spouting Nostradamus' earwax, and one will hold water.

there single pcb was WORSE then there dual pcb though although this time around they may be ok, but we will see =)

but with MCM = would be no contest the x2 by ati would be much better and can use one driver instead of a x-fire driver

(personally on mine and customers builds i've never ever had a problem with ati drivers single/x2/x-fire'd cards, I don't know how people get them lols..)

by MCM were talking about 2 cores connected and report to the drivers like 1? which could logically let ATI build 8xfire?

Being MCM doesn't necessarily mean it couldn't be yet another XFire setup or that there wouldn't be driver issues.

I won't believe it until I see it.

+1 returned by 4870x2 due to drivers and went back to my gtx280. ATI hardware is great (bit noisy) but NV drivers really do blow them out the water

There's no benefit from mcm for graphics cards unless it uses a faster bus for interchip communication.
Seems we made our greatest error when we named it at the start
for though we called it "Human Nature" - it was cancer of the heart

Everyone has a different driver story to tell with each side so is not worth mentioning.
Because all it really is that your setup & combination of hardware you use & that you chose over time had a problem with a particular vendor.

    I don't see this happening.

It would be awesome if it was true, but I think we'd have heard more about it.

I do hope I'm wrong though, it would be awesome.

We have been hearing about it for the last ~2 years...

I'm still surprised at this 300mm2 chip though. I had a feeling there was a larger chip in the lineup but I thought Redwood would come in under 280mm2, I was thinking somewhere around 240-260mm2.

I doubt we see ever a highend MCM gpu, reason -> heat.

Good luck with cooling 200W+ on an area of a few cm².
