Nvidia Enables Quad-SLI Support for GeForce GTX 400 Graphics Cards.

"Even though financial analysts claim that there are not enough Nvidia GeForce GTX 400-series graphics boards available on the market, Nvidia Corp. on Wednesday released a driver that enabled the latest graphics cards to work in 4-way multi-GPU mode to boost performance. While 4-way SLI for GeForce GTX 400 family is available formally, far not all end-users will take advantage of it."

sounds like a response for nvidia having a card that doesn't deliver as well as its counterpart..

4 way SLi was not part of the original pack and from what it looks it has been forced on. I am all for it tough there is no way a 4 way GTX 480 SLi can lose out to a quad crossfire 5870, but the cost's involved are well absurd.

EDIT: Does any one know of a review where they have 4*5870 vs 3*GTX 480??

Nvidia enables 4way-SLI as they believe noone can get hold of 4 cards at once
    J/k

multi-card setups scale poorly, even 3way has little extra over regular SLI,
    4way would have even less

The driver will also earn you the undying affection of your local power company and earn you hate mail of environmentalists everywhere...

I wonder if it comes with a handy guide for upgrading the power circuitry of your house as well?

Aren't four of these GPUs in one case a fire hazard or a hazard to other system components (this is not a joke post)? Pulling that much power from a typical wall socket in a home could be dangerous and the heat buildup inside the case may put a strain on conventional cooling methods.

Not even close. Did you ever notice how much power a vacuum cleaner, washing machine and similar use? Some use as much as 15KW.

Most 15amp circuits can handle around 1500-1800watts and 20amp can do around 2400watts. You factor in other things running, even other rooms branched into the same circuit and older wiring that's degraded you'll def see some issues and trip/pop a breaker.

    I believe a wall socket has a 15 amp limit @ 125 volts = something like 1,875watt limit.

the wires in the wall determine how much power should be on the circuit breaker, most of my house is good for 15A, but when we added power to the garage we used 20A wire, and thus a 20A breaker.

given these use that kind of juice, i wouldnt plug it into one room

Seriously though, except for furmark, nobody needs to push all to max power draw. This is just stupid and would be #1 way to kill your motherboard and gpu's

Anyone notice early in the video when it first shows uniheaven and it's near the dragon and going down the path, that it stutters? I get this on my 5870 in Furmark 1.8, it's a weird type of stuttering that happens every 1 or 2 seconds and the image kind pauses for a split second. Here's an example in Far Cry 2.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qaLn70_rSU0

The way I fixed mine on my 5870 was to make the low and the high 3d clocks the same in the xml profile and that got rid of it for the most part. So apparently every time it stutters it's switching clock speed from low3D to high3D?

One thing for sure is if ATI not going to solve the Crossfire-Eyeinity problem when GTX 480 will be available, i will buy 3 or 4 gtx´s dependent on preformance in surround.

They might as well make it octo-SLi enabled - since that's just as meaningless currently.
