RAID Card - Motherboard compatibility database

After battling over the last few years with many RAID cards and many motherboards I thought it would be a good idea to compile a database here of what RAID cards work with what motherboards and which do not.

Also if anyone has had success with getting seemingly incompatible configurations to work (taping up pins, disabling Jmicron onboard, changing slots, disabling Int13 etc) then
it would be very helpful if they could post their workarounds here as well...

As people add more data I will update the first post and probably get a spreadsheet going if it gets too large

Hopefully this database will help prevent us wasting lots of time and money buying incompatible hardware from the outset.

Since this is the Intel Section lets stay focused on Intel 775 1156 1155 and 1366 boards from P35 onwards but feel free to post up other boards / fixes too...

    PCI-E controllers only please

    Lets get to it:

Adaptec 5405 works fine on the Asus Z7S WS (as long as the board doesn't decide to die spontaneously, which it does from time to time..) - Intel 5400 chipset.

Perc5i on Tyan S7002 (Intel 5500) no issues.

Good to know but that Asus board sounds like FAILtrail judging from all the dead board reports in the WCG section and elsewhere

Added the Maximus Xtreme but not the P5W DH as it is getting a bit old with the 975x chipset.... (reasonable board tho... I still have 4 running in the office )

    Thanks for posting

    NEW BOARDS TO ADD:

    AMD AM3/ sb750 chipset / LSI 9260-4i

    --------------------------------------

GIGABYTE 790FXTA-UD5 Does not work at this time (bios will not id the card) maybe a fix in upcoming bios rev but at this time pcie x16/x8 slots are vga only

BIOSTAR GA790GX-A3+ / Bios shows the card, able to config raid and drives however computer will randomly reboot once in windows 7. Ive spent countless days trying every setting to make it work but at this time I would not recommend this board for LSI 92xxx series.

IF anyone can recommend an AMD am3 board that works with lsi 92xxx series and SSD please let me know otherwise it's back to Intel for me. Sorry biker I just read this thread is intel only but as a friendly suggestion,

    @ BIKER
Although this thread is a great idea and you're on the right track.... you might want to make this thread helpful to everyone regardless of chipset.. Please kindly ask a mod to add it as a sticky in the xtreme hardware section/storage. As more and more of the LSI 92xxx series is increasing in popularity...... I think this would make sense since its a Raid card compatibilty list and raid cards are universal regardless of intel or AMD. If it wasn't for SkOrPn pointing it out in a differnent thread I would've never seen it. Also, you might want posters to add specific bios steps that make the cards work (see example)
    ************************
    EXAMPLE:

    CONTROLLER /FW VER: LSI 9260-4i / 12.0.1-0081_SAS_FW_Image_2.0.03-0725
    MOTHERBOARD: biostar GA790GX-A3+
    MOBO BIOS VER/DATE:78DAA902.BST / Dec-2009
DRIVES IN ARRAY: 2 x OCZ SSD Summit (FW 19C)

    NOTES:
Using kill disk I wiped the drives and meanwhile I made a 20gb windows7 partition on a raptor and installed the updates and drivers for the chipset. then I rebooted plugged in the lsi and booted into windows and installed the drivers for the 92604i and then did the flash with you. once it flashed successfully and you went to bed. I plugged in my clean ssds to the card and set the disk settings for native ide. since this board has 2 x16 slots I had to go into that bios setting that shows vga order. it usually says PEG, PEG2 PEG3, PCI and so on. since peg stands for the 1st x16 slot closest to the cpu socket, peg2 is the next x16 slot and so on. I set it to the one with the raid card. then I set my apci to s1 and gen2. rebooted got into webbios made the array using the auto config method (it was late/i was drinking) rebooted and installed win7 dvd. plugged in the usb key with the drivers/it doesnt ask for them but i did it anyway. installed windows finally no reboots. installed the drivers/updates. turned off indexing/ power options to performance/ disk drive shutdown to NEVER. etc. etc. installed the lsi mega raid manager. went in and made the changes i didnt make when I did the automatic config in web bios.
    ***************************

    You get the idea.

    Yes!

Being useful and helpful is the whole point of this thread

I simply posted it in the Intel section because I have not owned a AMD board since the A8N-SLI Deluxe

Thanks for the Gigabyte X58 confirmations as well steveR0!

Now trans am it might be a good idea to peruse peoples' system specs or simply ask who is running ok with AMD over in this thread... I know some are.... good luck

Also Gigabyte X58 Extreme LGA 1366:
I've had an Adaptec 5805, 31605, and 3085 installed at the same time. So they all worked.
Supermicro AOC-USAS-S8iR - No (flipped card around)
Perc 5/i - Worked "OK" with the tape mod, not as well as the Adaptecs.

    EVGA 680i LGA 775:
    Adaptec 5805, 31605, and 3085 all worked.
Supermicro AOC-USAS-S8iR - No (flipped card around)
Perc 5/i - Worked well. Even dual cards worked (including w/ the LSI firmware)
Not going to lie, I just bought another 31605 today because these Adaptec things just work... in everything.

    GA-EP45-UD3P LGA 775:

    Did that help at all?

Asus Rampage II Extreme, compatible with Dell Perc 5/i

There's a weird problem, though. The latest BIOS versions (1204 and later, it appears) cause the board to detect only 4GB of RAM (out of 6) in the presence of the RAID controller. Take the RAID controller out or downgrade the BIOS and all memory is detected...

Friend replicated this in his P6T WS Professional

Highpoint 2300 and Highpoint 2310 work.
Had to disable "Reallocate EBDA" and disable INT13 on the controllers using BIOS update SW.
    Multiple 2310 cards won't work. A 2310 and a 2300 will work ok.

Sorry dude, none that I know of.... most users ditched the 5805 when the new LSI 92xx series hit retail.
