Well since we are trying to run the vdd at 3.2 volts or more having the drain of a mosfet using your 3.3v rail is a bit crazy. Drain should be above whatever volts you need and source pin should be higher than the drain pin. Source pin uses the 5v rail. If the source pin used the 12v rail and drain used the 5v rail you'd be able to increase vdd to a lot higher voltage than even some of us crazy v modders would think of using. But in answer to your question and how my ic7 and ic7 max3 works is raise your 3.3v rail at least 0.125 volts above what you set your vdd at. You will still get a bit of a voltage drop. But it may not be that bad. Incresing the 3.3v rail to 0.175 above what you set your vdd at will take care of any voltage drop. So i set my voltages accordingly.
    vdd=3.450
    3.3v rail=3.625

Yo Minnyboy!!! nice one dude. Glad it works for you.

Thanks for clearing that up. I appreciate you answering. Also I have finally come to the realization that this is a voltage divider issue and not a voltage source/regulation issue. I'm going to fire up my new max 3 tomorrow ( awaiting the radiator shroud which will be picked up tomorrow) in an unmodded state, then I'll attack the semi dead max3 board to mod it. My goals are somewhat lower than everyone elses here I think. I'm just looking for a 250 FSB 1:1 on Geil pc4200 and a 2.8c.

can somebody help me with the VTT mod

i just done the mod but i still get the same readings for vtt if i turn the vario nothing changes.

i thik it could be 2 things or:
My vario is broke but i don't think it will be that.
Or i didn't cut the 'wire' at the back good enough is there a way to test if its cut good enough ?

If i put the multimeter to 'beep mode' (dunno correct word, its where you get 2 wires that are connecten to each other that the multimeter goes beep) and touch the upper mosfet lower leg and left wire of mc50 i get a beep, is this normal because if i get a beep its because there is no resistants between the two

so could it be the wire at the back that is not cut correctly?

    Thanx in advance!

VDD mod of a max3 leave R50 alone. Remove MC64 and in it's place stick a 2k ohm vario resistor. Set it at 2k ohm. Only 2 pins of the vario are required. Adjust the 2k ohm to raise VDD to 3.2+ If you set that 2k ohm resistor at 2k ohm and have bios at 3.2v you'll get about 3.45+ volts... what happed when i put some 5 or 10k pot ??? how much can i get of my vdd ?

    Hi guys!

I have an abit ic-7 max 3 without MC64, i have done the vdd mod removing the resistance r50 and in its's place i put a 200 ohm trimmer with a fix resistance 10 ohm between center and left pin(right to ground). Even the the mod on sense wire of my psu q-tec 500w i can have from 2.60 to 3.45 on vdd.

ok now i want do the vtt mod...

this is ok for vtt mod?

I have a question about the cut of trace on mainboard, it must be deep or no?

    Sorry for my english

    byez!

    Lightbulb IC7 MAX3 mods

    Hello everybody,

I'm about to buy IC7 MAX3 board and I would like to know in details what mods do I have to apply to this mainboard to make it worth for overcloking. I read all the pages around here and now I'm a bit confused because there are two or three models that yoou guys are talking about. Please anybody explain ( pics would be nice ) what do I have to modify on IC7 MAX3 mainboard.
    Thanks for the helping hand.

CATCH22 if you reading this please help me!!!! Thanks

    Post Memory

And another thing....why everybody is trying to overclock PC3200 memory and is not using a PC4000 memory instead? PC4000 memory with 2.5-7-4-4 timings is impossible to set up at 2-6-3-2 when running in 400Mhz?? I'm not so familiar with this settings and I would definatelly like to know more about this. Thanks for any help!!

Vdd on a motherboard is not the same as Vdd on a vid card bud.

Vdd md on the Max3 is near the pci slots and has nothing to do with MC64.

You can leave or remove MC64 when doing the Vdimm mod, but in its place is NOT where you would add your 2K VR. You remove R50 and add the VR to those bare solder pads.

Not sure that adding a higher resisance VR will net you any gain in Vdimm over using a 2K VR. In fact, a 200 ohm VR is prob good enough. If you are stuck at 3.45v and want to go higher, check the 3.3v rail of your psu to see if thats whats hodling you back versus the resistance of your VR.

Keep in mind that most of the 3200 people are using here is BH5. That means it can take the high voltages we are throwing at it and still keep tight timings.

Memory with poor timings has to be running alot faster to make up the gap in timings performance when compared to sticks with tight timings.

So what you recommend?..using a very good PC3200 memory as OCZ platinum 2-6-3-2 or using a very good memory PC4000 or higher ( I'm talking here about OCZ, Corsair, Geil )
    I'm using P4 3.0 G Presscot. Thanks
Also can you help me posting the mods that you recommed to be done for IC7 MAX3 ? I'm good at soldering and I have everything I need for that. Cheers
By the way...what means BH5??....sorry for my ignorance but like I said I deal everyday with computers like HP and Compaq and I dont know much about overcloking )

    Question

What is BH5 and how do I know if a memory is BH5 or not? I have to decide what memory I will buy and I want to make the right decission. The place where I will but the memory is www.pctronix.co.nz . If somebody is EXPERT please have a look on their list ( especially Corsair, OCZ or Geil ) and tell me which one is the best option for using with IC7 MAX3 and Presscot 3.0Ghz. Thanks

I have read this thread back to front many many times before i moded my max3. I have the vtt mod working ok between mc50 and the lower leg of the upper mosfet With bios set at 2.9v i adjusted the vtt to 1.55 half of my vdimm of 3.13. The vdim is causing me a little problem as the adjustment is very small. I have a 2k 25 tern pot over the removed mc64 cap. I measure the resistance of the legs connected to the mc64 and i get only 480 ohms with 1 ohm over the middle leg and not connected to anything leg.

If i adjust the pot the not connected side will rise but not in proportion to the other side. I had the open side set at 800 ohms the mc64 side showed 400 ohms. This means i cant lower the vdim below 3.13 when set to 2.9v could this allow to much current to flow to my ram chips with the low resitance over mc64 ? would a bigger pot be better Or are the readings effected because i am taking readings while connected to the max3

Memory i have tried so far
2x512mb corsair xms3200 v1.2 this has to be the worst ram ever it wont overclock past 210fsb no matter what vdim and timmings.( think 3.13 vdim was too much for it and it was not working very well on the max 3)

    2x 256mb xms 3500 v1.1 bh5 this will run at 260fsb 1:1 3.13v 2.5 337 no problem I have some 2x512mb twinmos bh5 on the way too.

So far i had the max3 upto 270 fsb with 5:4 memory running at 2227 2.8 vdim but the cpu was unstable and i dont want to run the vcore over 1.65v so i backed it down to 267.
Max 1:1 overclock so far is 260fsb vdim 3.13 2.5 337 timings but runnig at 2227 with 5:4 gives better sandra / super pi results.

Here's vdimm mod for MAX3. You shouldn't be selecting 2.9v in BIOS. Also, 2kohms trimmer works ok for this mod, even thou a 200ohms is the best.
For more info on this mod go here.

Thanks for the info but this just makes this thread even harder to understand which mod to use.
I used a 2k trimmer over mc64 and leave r50 alone as stated many times in this thread now your saying to use r50 and remove the tranny next to it.

If you want your vdimm mod to work with no problems, do it as I shown on that site.
