MSI P55-GD80 : Retail unit pictorial.

Hi guys,

Just wanted to share some pictures of this board.
MSI P55-GD80 for socket 1156.
(I'm not sure if this is the right place to post, so sorry if its not.

The board itself :




Closeup on the heatsinks at the cpu vrm area.
They're linked by this thick heatpipe called, "Superpipe".




The socket cover is in a flip up position now.




Accompanied by a 10 phase power design?

Below it is the APS(Active Phase Switching) display.




Further down the board, the PCI expansion slots are pretty well layed out.
Should you end up with 3way SLI,
you'll still have a PCI-E 1x and PCI slot to spare. (ie, raid & sound card.)




The PCH lies underneath here.




Connection options and I/O ports :

IDE is still available.






Some features on the board :

There are no physical power/reset buttons on the board.
Actually they are, but touch sensitive one.

The "+/-" Bclk buttons works like SetFSB.
If you do not have SetFSB, you can use this.
Just open up something like CPUz and increase your bclk from there. It works.




OC Genie is like an auto overclocking feature.
You have to enable it in the bios first.
Prior to booting up, press the "OC Genie" button, and the bios will do the work for you.
It'll generate an overclocked speed and your comp is overclocked in windows automatically




External voltage check points :
The measuring and gnd points are all located at the side, ready for you to use.
Just plug in your mm probes and they can be read immediately.





This board has all the features seemingly made ready for the bencher & overclocker.
So far, this board has been very interesting.
I personally like the bios alot.
They incorporated various bios features/options from around, all into one.

Updates :

Since the mounting holes for P55 is in-between LGA775 and LGA1366,
I used some cable ties to secure my heatsink coz' I couldn't find any suitable brackets.
(Time to drill some more holes in your hold down and backplate
or do up a new one.. keke.. )

Its just for testing, so its still alright as the mainboard will be lying
down and not mounted upright in a casing.

You can toggle on/off the leds on the mobo.
Same for the power "buttons".

To me this looks like the best board ever produced by MSI, the features and layout of the board are uber nice. In my eyes this is the most interesting P55 board and I've never previously even concidered a MSI board. The only thing that worries me is the price... if that wasn't an issue I'd jump on this board immediatly. (not literally speaking ofc )

The price is now known and IMO slightly better than I had expected, 190 EUR in germany: http://geizhals.at/eu/?cat=mbp4_1156

For you US-guys it prolly translates to around $230 when taking taxes and other price differences into account. Looks like quite fair deal for such price! I'll definitely wait for some benchmarks and more reviews though. I had expected it to be like 230 EUR or ~$280'ish.

Some basic runs :

In the bios, the voltage options can be manually keyed in.(Finally..)
Fine tuning of bios still in progress i guess.

Vcore goes in 0.006v increaments.
0.015v for vdimm.




Stock speed runs with turbo tech enabled.
Effectively, its at 2940mhz.

32m vista and xp diff.
668mhz @ 7-7-7-21, trfc 60, trrd 3,
B2B-CAS Delay @ Auto




3D runs using GTX260 on Vista 32 w/SP2 :

lol, your retail i5 750 was so much better than the ES. xD 1.3~1.32v for 4GHz is the lowest vcore required so far of what's been posted. Usually ranges from 1.35~1.41v or so.

What about BCLK overclocking capability for the motherboard? I'm sure many are interested in knowing this if it can stand up against those nice 230+ on air for Gigabyte results for example.

You've got a low-volter chip already. Water-cooled? What's your max OC on the CPU BTW?

I like the msi board. Two faults though. One, the super pipe is near useless. The heatpipe should be in between the heatsink assembly. Not on top of it! You just wasted 50% of the surface area the heatpipe is supposed to touch. There's no nb, so why is there a nb heatsink? More metal=faster=marketing bs? Second, the font is still uber ugly, but much smaller issue than the first.

Guess its the info that most of us needs. A retail Core i5 750 that can hit a decent 4.4GHz w/ 1.44 vcore (aircooled). -There you go.

We can expect some chips to best those numbers or bust before the numbers.
