I've seen quite a few people go the submerged route and none of them got great results.

I could see the benefit of saving money on water blocks and such if it would actually perform better than air. That and if it really does smell.... 75 gallons will run you out of your house.

It's not worth throwing the fish out. (I like my aquarium. I take good care of it.)

EDIT: If you could find a way to take the oil sub zero then it might be interesting.

Then it would be too thick and not circulate the heat.

I don't think you get it. It would freeze (oil freezes at a higher temp than water, I believe), and then you would have 2 very small isolated areas that were liquefied from the heat of the cpu and gpu cores that would be too small to cool their components, but not hot enough to allow enough of the mineral oil to circulate in order to remove the heat. The heat would just build up in a smaller volume of mineral oil.

I'd figure that mineral oil would freeze at a lower temp than water but you're probably right. I was just guessing.

You Sir, are a welcome addition to any of our teams... Let us know how the project works out. Please post up here, or in WCG's section. We're always looking for new stuff to try...

As to the mineral oil, I would HIGHLY recommend just getting the plain, pure stuff. There is no odor at all to it. Personally, I absolutely hate the smell of baby oil. So much so that I threw the stuff out raising our baby, and got the pure stuff. (No wonder some folks hate babies. They stink of baby oil....)
