    Hi everyone,

Hope you don't mind me resurrecting an old thread. Looking to upgrade my P6T6 from an i7-920 to a Westmere + 24GB ECC memory. Wondering if the latest BIOS ever resolved all the issues mentioned in this thread, and if anyone can recommend a memory product/kit that is known to work? Specifically:

    1. Will an X5650 Q3QN A0 work, or do I need a B1?
    2. Will registered ECC RAM work or do I need unbuffered?
    3. How about 8GB modules? (I encountered great pains in the past trying to pass Memtest86/Prime95 24x7 with all 6 slots populated. Found some cheap 8GB 1600MHz CL9 Hynix modules and wondering if they're worth a shot as I could do it with just 3 of them)
    4. Any support for 32GB?

Bingo13, are you still around here to chime in and help out?

    Much thanks!

Answering my own post here for the benefit of anyone coming to this thread via Google. 1) The "A0" Xeon CPU's should work fine with the P6T6. I found an E5645 Q2WV and it's working like a champ. 2) You need unbuffered memory. 3) 8GB modules work fine. I'm using two KVR1333D3E9SK2/16G plus one KVR13E9/8I, DDR3, running at 1443MHz, CL8, 2N. That particular RAM could probably go faster but increasing amounts of QPI/uncore voltage are required from the CPU to achieve stability under Prime95. Otherwise you'll start to notice corrected ECC errors in the Event Log (very cool!). Interestingly these aren't visible to Memtest86 or Memtest86+, which both report 2+ full passes with no errors at higher speeds. YMMV.
