i think your making a big mistake... they have just been released, ocz has already slashed their prices and by quite a bit, others will follow, and eventually intel will slash their prices as well...

I agree with this. But no matter what, these buyers don't care because that's there decision based on their needs.

Intel is not good at cutting prices - even at pricing, but let's see if there's an exception.

I may just replace my raptor in favor of one of these in the near future... I'd probably appreciate the difference between the 2 more than going from Core 2 to i7 so its money better spent in that respect.

mhhh no 34nm slc until 2010, weird...
does anybody understand intels capacity strategy?

MLC drives are 80gb and 160gb, but then they go for 300gb and not 320?
and SLC drives are 64 128 and 256? i dont get it...

Thats got to be some typo. But no new drives really til late next year per say, except a refresh? Wonder what a refresh would entail?

I was wondering the same thing earlier, at least about the 300 vs 320 issue. I would almost have to guess that it could be a controller limitation, but that would be odd to say the least.

Yes its seems to happen more so on popular items when its out of stock they deactivate it.

it could be possible intel is forcing people to buy the old stock first before they give out much of the new stuff (its a 100% guess and i do not have any clue about anything)

Intel has informed me of a bug in the X25-M G2 shipping firmware. This bug is specific to setting a hard drive password in your BIOS. If you have set a BIOS HDD password, then subsequently change or disable that password, the SSD may become inoperable. Intel is correcting the issue in firmware and will be posting a fix shortly. In summary:

* DO NOT set a BIOS HDD password on an X25-M G2.
* If you already have, DO NOT CHANGE OR DISABLE the BIOS HDD password.

It will be safe to do either of the above once the X25-M G2 is flashed to a newer firmware to be released by Intel shortly. Firmware, when available, can be reached by this not-yet-live link.

Who puts passwords on their HDDs the bios anyway? I bet very few will ever run into this problem.

yeah, that is a nice feature... thought its kinda funny to call it a feature, its more like this controller does things right while all other controllers are sortof in beta stage
i hope other controllers will implement this in some way or another soon...

p.s. I'm not sure I like the idea of consumers being guinea pigs for this beta testing fad ... its all over the place now

Intel not good at pricing? HAHAHA. If their pricing is so bad, then why do they have something like 78% of the market for chips? I suggest you take a gander at Intel's more-than-stellar balance sheet. It isn't that Intel is bad at pricing, its that Intel outclasses its competitors to a large degree. And lets leave cutting prices to Wal-mart. If Intel cut its prices when it didn't have to, all their executives would be fired.

Exactly... this is hardly a major issue that makes the X-25M G2 "failing" . It's being fixed with a firmware and is one that virtually no one would run into regardless.

i think you misunderstand each other and actually say the same thing... your intel focussed though while hes consumer focussed

intel is terrible at pricing for an end user perspective, they charge as much as they can
intel is great at pricing for an intel perspective, they charge as much as they can

intel tends to not cut prices cause they are the largest supplier and most of their customers dont like price cuts, as it hurts them if their inventory system isnt very efficient... it can translate into direct losses for them if they dont sell their stuff quickly and instead stockpile it in warehouses for a slow distribution system...

thats why all big players anounce price drops weeks ahead, to make sure people can clear their inventory. and their biggest customers hear about price drops even sooner and get warned in pricing roadmaps months ahead already...

i think hes right, intel wont drop the prices im affraid... at least not that soon... maybe for christmas, but probably not for now, not notably anyhow... but you never know, if everybody else really drops prices a lot like ocz and they dont see a lot of volume getting moved, they might cut their ssd pricing... mhhhh competition

manufacturers hate it, end users cant get enough of it
