What is the major differencve between the TX and HX versions ?
Is it worth waiting a week or so for the HX850 to arrive and is it worth the extra dollars ?

The major differences are that the HX is modular and it is built on a new CWT platform, compared to the TX which is built on the ageing CWT PSH platform, which is really stretched to attain the 850w power level. The HX has a cleaner (less ripple) power output than the TX. The HX is also a little longer than the TX, so if space is at a premium in your case, makes sure you measure your available space before purchase.
A TX would provide all the power you need and is a great PSU, I certainly like mine, but if you definitely want a modular PSU or want the newest item, the HX is the one to go for. Whether or not it's worth the extra $ is subjective. The HX certainly is a better PSU, but if it's worth it compared to the TX for your needs is your call to make.

What's the price difference?
Here in the U.S. the price difference is ~$100. Probably much greater elsewhere.
Wow that is pretty huge. Our TX850s are overpriced here so I hate to see how high the HX850 is.
Thats mainly cause of rebates...but they should hopefully start give rebates on it like every other corsair
I mean, its still a difference, but imo, once u go modular u never go back. I love it

This is all true, and the HX850 is also more efficient. It is now 80 Plus SILVER certified, compared to the TX850 which is 80 Plus. Here is the TX850's efficiency.Originally Posted by CryptiK

The HX850 and HX750 used to be 80 Plus GOLD certified, but not anymore since they tend to not reach the gold certification.
As for the price difference, in the US the difference is usually around $60-$80 before rebates.

The HX850 just came out a few months ago, and has seen rave reviews from all the top tech review sites, and customers, and has one of the highest efficiency ratings available, and lowest ripple ratings available at the time.

Well we may get ripped off here and there, but there's plenty of other deals like on video cards, CPUs, memory, etc. I'm sure building a PC on the cheap is far easier in the U.S. than in many other countries.

Right now, the HX850 can be purchased at $169.99..... (At ZipZoomFly.....)
The TX850 runs around $100-$110.....so around a difference of like $60. Not exactly horrible or ripped off pricing in any case.
Cannot depend upon Newegg to represent current lowest pricing for anything these days.

HX is better in all aspects, just what everyone already said. One thing nobody mentioned: The TX850 is pretty damn noisy, while the HX is fairly quiet.
Well it popped up at a shop I frequently visit and it is 150AUD more than the TX. That's quite a big jump and I'm happy with my tx850 for the price.

Wow, now it is at $279AUD vs the TX at $230. I'd pay the difference in a heartbeat now.

More like why are etailers doing this to us. Dont worry people could've gotten their Corsair HX850s for about $150 from Dell or zipzoomfly deals.

ZZF sucks they ship beat up boxes and dont take defective parts back. and i wouldent trust dell the last time i orded something it was a corsair voyager 16GB GT and they sent the normal one then said that i was trying to send back the wrong item and i had to go through visa and channel 7 to get it resolved. they ended up looking in the warehouse and seeing all the voyager GT were not and it was mislabeled. i bet that they would do the same with the HX and send u a tx

We don't get ripped off, it's just that everything now is priced with it's MSRP (Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price) inflated, just so the retailer can "mark it down" to a lower dollar figure... this makes it looks more enticing. Very rarely do items in the US sell for their MSRP. It is usually much lower because they are perpetually "On Sale."
The key is finding when it is on sale for the lowest possible price, like the afforementioned $150 deal Dell had (I got mine !)
have you looked at the zalman zm850-hp ? i have the 1000 watt and love it, its realy low noise, compaired to corsair, and ripple isnt too bad, it has gotten some realy nice reviews all over the net. i can only recommend it after ive tried the TX850 and that was running hot and noisy like hell.
Hey mine is a corsair and it is really quiet i wish i would have got a modular now though.
