Question about the GTZ 775 backplate

I have a new GTZ on the way, and I'm trying to find out in advance if the 775 backplate that it uses is functionally identical to this one (in terms of threading esp).

If not, I guess I should get a head start removing my motherboard.

It looks the same and may be the same size and pitch thread but the gtz
mounting system relies on part of the backing plate protruding thru the
mounting holes, thats what the screws bottom out on.

better off using the supplied backing plate.

Yes. It is. I bought it used and it didn't even have a backplate. I used the one already on my mobo and worked fine. Actually, I didn't even have the LGA775 mounting kit, so I just drilled holes in the LGA1366 mounting kit and it worked.

    99% sure you're fine.

    - Have a backplate installed on my mobo already (the one I linked).
    - Looks very similar to the GTZ backplate, so if they turn out to be interchangeable, I don't have to go through the aggravation of tearing out my board just to replace the backplate behind the board.

That picture is 100% the same, except my GTZ sticky pad was a full square

So, the final verdict: the backplates are not interchangeable .

The threading is exactly the same and the GTZ thumbscrews fit fine. But the "legs" on other backplate protrude 1-2mm more through the mounting holes, so the thumbscrews bottom out faster. The end result is that the pressure is less than with the GTZ backplate. And in my case, the problem is exacerbated by the fact that I have a lapped CPU and the GTZ is pressure-optimized for non-lapped CPUs.

It worked out to be about 5-6C worth of difference.

So yes, I ended up having to take out my motherboard in the end which I was hoping to avoid. Well it was worth a shot anyways.
