    A64 3000+... Crashes on WindowsXP load

    ok, i got this system together and im PRETTY sure that i can use this spare 333Mhz ram i have laying around w/ my A64 3000+ on a Gigabyte K8NS Ultra-939, i know its not on their website but i have it and it says Limited Edition... its a nForce3 Ultra chipset and says it supports Dual channel DDR400+ but i dont remember if it REQUIRED DDR400 or no, im assuming no since it seems to act fine up until windows goes to load, its got 1GB of DDR333 in it right now, two different sticks of 512mb... even tried using single sticks to see if it would make it... it doesnt...

    its got a CPNS9700 NT on it running at full speed w/ AS5 and temps in bios are 33C since i most likely put WAYYYYY too much AS5 on there... but its all at stock clocks, and if it required DDR400 wouldnt it crash before it could flash the WinXP load screen?

    Help me figure out what in the hell im doing wrong...

    DDR333 will work fine, however you may need to make sure in the bios that it is setting it to 333 rather than 400.

    It could be the video drivers. See if you can get into safemode. Also if your windows XP is x86 try Windows 7 x64.

    I had an issue with a more modern board recently that would crash Windows XP x86 during boot up after the video drivers were installed. I couldn't fix it so I switched over to Windows XP x64 and the problem was fixed.

    well thats the thing about it being x86, i've ran this same setup w/ winxp x86 for a while when i first built it... the only difference is the ram and video... its got a ATI 9250 in it and the 333ram... im gonna make sure its set to 333 in bios again, tho i swear i couldnt find anything...

    i might install xp sp3 off of my thumbdrive on there to see if that fixes it... going to try a 4th harddrive since i know one or two of mine were fuxed as it was and were used for temp storage for a while...

    It may be listed in bios as a divider in ratios rather than clock speed.

    download ubuntu live CD that can install a temporary OS though RAM

    that allows you to check whether the problem is based on hardware issue or software issue most times

    Set ram to Auto with default volts that it sets...

    Make shure HT is 800 not 1000mhz if i remeber correct.. that would be 3x or 4x ht. Some mobos will have a stroke with X5 Ht and a 3000+

    Then put in your Xp CD and boot and do a repair..maybe itll get ya back into windows.

    Once you can get into windows use the 9.3catalyst or lower for the 9250.

    Hope something works for ya.

    Also how is the PSU? try a spare if ya got one. It could be craping under windows loading screen.
