well we are close. a built just built a system for a buddy of mine with a E8400 (clocked to 4.4ghz) and a GTX 275 that was mildly overclocked and he is running the original Crysis on all High settings with 16X AA at 1920x1080 with completely playable frame rates. And yes it can't do that on Very high (have to disable AA to get playable frames) but i can not tell the difference between Very High and High settings anyways, besides the drop in frames. maybe i ma not looking hard enough but i think High with 16XAA looks better than Very high with no AA that's for sure.
you and me both man. i just hope they don't dumb things down to much. i was able to master the economy and now they are going to change it on me however i really am looking forward to the new units!
oh and yes i have done that but if you run say fraps or better yet hit the / key on your number pad to display your FPS you will notice the frames per second is still well above 10FPS. however if you boot up the network and game monitor you will notice the game simulation speed is running at a ratio of say 4 real seconds to every 1 game second. game simulation speed is what makes supreme commander lag. i really hope they optimize it better for multi core CPU's in SupCom 2, it is better than most and the MadBoris Core maximizer helps allot but it is far from perfect.
But back on topic, were i come from PC games are a myth (stupid consoles) so i have no need to pre order any PC games and there is always plenty of stock in the stores. or you have stores like EB games that could care less about PC gamers and just don't stock the games until like a week after release.

Crysis's requirements aren't actually that bad. I played through the original with just a 1950XTX and an E6600 running at 3GHz and it played fine at 1680x1050 with mixed settings ranging from medium to high. Frames ranged from 21-31 until final boss battle (which is where I had to lower res.) And with that card and those settings Crysis still looks far better than any console game I've seen so far. (Except maybe the character models in Killzone 2 those look incredible, but at a cost to the overall game aesthetics imo because they highlight the really shoddy textures.)
If the game doesn't run at smooth frame rates just go into the options and lower the graphics settings. Its not the end of the world, no one is going to think any less of you if your rig isn't capable of running every single game at 2560 x 1600, though I can see how those in the tiny tackle team might get a bit anxious about such things.
I really enjoyed the first two games and can't wait for this one. I do usually pre-order because if you do it online you tend to get the game a day or two earlier than street release date but given as this will probably require some sort of online activation I wont be able to play the bloody thing if it comes early anyway.
Isnt crysis 2 somewhat console ported?
have you seen the differed lighting and improved particles in the tech demo for CE3? also the demo looks almost as good as crysis but its running on consoles. crytek wrote 1 million lines of code for crysis. i think they know a thing or 2 about optimization
