BlackOps: Can I remove the WaterBlock

Can I remove the Northbridge waterblock and replace it with a 3rd party cooler.

    How do I remove it?

    Awesome. Thanks zanzabar.

Follow-up Question, using the same method, after removing the waterblock, would I be able to use a Thermalright HR-05 SLI-IFX on it, on top of the heatpipe assembly?

yes, u can use whatever and u can even put the stock cooler back on its a 50mm hole space i think so it should work with most universal systems

BTW, just making sure, do I actually place the HR-05 SLI on top of the heatpipes or remove the entire heatpipe and place it directly on top of the X48 Chip?

is it possible to just mount it on top of all the heatpipes? So I dont need other PWM sinks.

I need to get myself a Hr-05 IFX now.

What does the guide mean when it says to not replace the TIM on the mosfet? Am I supposed to used the same one when remounting?

the mosfet has blue thermal tape u need to have it there or u might crush the pwms and it wont mount with even contact without it

and look at the guide pic, the water block is sitting on top

    Yea I saw the picture.

Hm. I'm going to try this when I have time. I have an original HR-05 (not IFX).

Cmon Blizzie make some time! LoL... I wanna see. Go Guinea Pig.. I have my brand new blackops gathering dust here in the corner coz I still dont have the rest of the parts for my new PC.

oh and please dont forget your pics, here are some of my concerns:

    1. with the single bar mounting mechanism of the HR-05 IFX-SLI im afraid it wont fit the mounting holes in the BoPs.
    2. im thinking the pipes would point towards the Vcard area, 1st PCI-E slot, would there be enough room, maybe even for a thin 80mm fan.

You're the hope of the nation bliz!

I was thinking about it.. then I figured, a custom mounting system would be needed. I don't recall any holes for the HR-05 to mount properly. (I could be wrong).

I think.. it would still fit, because it's a universal system.

There's no hole on the motherboard to put the push pins in.
