Microsoft seems to have one of the best purchase deals, because they let you download it (still on release day, though) and no shipping/tax cost.

it's actually a price that seems fair, almost hard to justify pirating it here... though it IS only an 'upgrade' to Home Premium, $50 is pretty good. The new operating system, which Microsoft hopes will be a bigger hit than the poorly received Vista, will be generally released on Oct. 22. It will be available on pre-order from U.S. stores such as Best Buy , online retailer Amazon.com and the company's own website from Friday.
Microsoft said it would sell the Home Premium upgrade version of Windows 7 -- which most non-business customers already using Windows will want -- for $49.99 from Friday until July 11 in the United States. The discs would be shipped after general release.
Beware the nonsense that is Vista Ultimate cannot upgrade to 7 Home Premium, though... this seems to only be for Home Premium users (like me, who got it OEM with my laptop). I just hope you can do a clean install by only having to provide a Vista key.
