    That is a massive... capacitor?

Or it could be a torroid I guess, but its still massive.

The center one is a large torroid transformer, the 4 "towers" surrounding it are caps

Thats awesome man. I have a 1972 MCS (made by Sanyo) that I used until yesterday when I got a Kenwood.

    That Pioneer is sweet.

The 4 caps are 22,000uf each.

It's a SX-1250. The highs are so clear it's unbelievable. The list price back in '75 - '79 was $900. I live in an apartment and I haven't been able to turn it past about 1/3rd. This is what real power is. It is 160 watts which doesn't sound like much, but they used to rate them different back then. 160 watts at about 75lbs!!

I also have a SX-780 witch is a pretty good little receiver, but is better matched with an old pair of vintage Advent bookshelf speakers or the like.

The 1250 cost me $450, the 780 I picked up at a thrift store for $28, and I just got a Technics SA-300 for $8 which sounds great on a pair of 4ohm Infinity's, but crap on the HPM-100's.

Here is a link to the pioneer models. http://akdatabase.org/Pioneer/Receivers.htm
