    Heatshrink hose clamps?

    I used these
    http://www.jegs.com/p/Gates/Gates-Po...43359/10002/-1
at work today and of course wondered if I could use them in
    my rig.

it takes quite a bit of heat to activate them(60-90 sec. w/ a heatgun) so I dont think I would want to try it while mounted in the rig and it might be to much for the tubing.
thought I would pick up a couple next week to test with but I wanted to check if this had been tried before as some searching hasnt turned up anything for me.

Interesting, but how do you remove them neatly, besides cutting them off and losing that length of tubing.....which means you probably end up replacing that whole length of tubing they were used on?

just think it as zip tie ... once secured you'll have to snap it to release it

    besides .. it's a heatshrink .. how hard it'll be with a pen knife?

Yah, except zip ties don't cost $3.70 per tie.

well .. think of it as an investment for knowledge ...

actually the cost is high due to the elasticity and shrink pressure of the thermoplastic .. since this stuff can be used to prevent leakage, at a certain pressure ... so it's safe to assume, the strength in that polymer must be insane

I'm not sure how you mean "snap it" but this stuff is the hercules of
    heatshrink.
wall thickness is about 2mm and is so stiff that I cannot collapse a
unshrunk 1" dia. clamp with my fingers.

but that somehow reminded me of a tool that holds an xacto blade so that
just the tip protrudes a set amount for scoring to a specified depth that
    might work.

i like it... if it weren't for the cost...

but honestly, taking a heat gun that close to your MB... that worries me the most.

You assemble your WC on a motherboard? Taking it out after measuring tubing lenghts to put it together out of the case seems like an easy solution.

I got to play with these more today and I'm gonna give it a try.

I had to remove one so I grabbed an xacto blade w/ a pair of vise grips
letting the tip stick out just a little and scored it down the side and it easily tore off without nicking the hose so removal shouldnt be a problem.
I held the end of a piece of tygon 3603 next to a rad hose clamp while shrinking it and it didnt appear to hurt it at all and was even suprisingly cool to the touch immediately afterwards.

My local parts store can get the size I need for $2.50ea. but I had to buy 10(smallest amount they can order) and they are over an inch long so maybe
they can be cut in half and still work good?
if so then cost could be down to $1.25 per connection.

can anyone tell me how this much heat will affect the tygon? at 2 minutes under the heat gun I couldnt detect anything, no softness or even any melting on the edge but I'd like to be sure theres no degradation.

I should be able to get some pics by next weekend
