    Another new cruncher...

    Hi all,

I signed up over a year ago, but only got to crunch a few days before things like work and moving got in the way. Finally got my i7 920 rig all set up and stable ... currently crunching at 3.6GHz, but will eventually bump that up. Still trying to learn how to optimize it.

Here's the i7 rig - you can see we're in the desert, so the heat this thing generates makes my office a bit toasty, but a small price to pay to join the club:

(Built for bling and gaming, but now it's also doing some good work)

Currently doing an AMD 955BE build in a Danger Den Torture Rack, and it's crunching when I don't have it down for modification:

(I know not to run the screen saver, just did it for the pic)

I mentioned in my worklog that the importance of the crunching community hit me yesterday - a friend we hadn't seen in a while made an overnight visit. He's 48 with three kids ... and is recovering from throat cancer. Fortunately the prognosis is good, but he's been ravaged by the disease and treatment. When I thanked him for visiting, his comment was "my outlook has changed - I'm making a point to connect with every one I care about..."

So, that's my intro (skinnee said I had to do it). I'd also like to give a big thanks to Dr. SIG, cause he encouraged my earlier builds and was always there to prod with respect to crunching. Now, once I finish the AMD build, got a couple of other processors that might be able to do some work

Well lookey here, our little lady made it over. Guys this is one Classy Lady and one hell of a computer builder not to mention photography that will knock your socks off. She has put together some watercooling builds that had the Gods jealous. So when she speaks, listen.

I've seen your posts over quite a while and while I didn't realise you were one of those "lady type people" until recently I did see someone with a good positive nature and never a nasty word for others.
You will fit in well here as one thing I can tell you, these folks are the type you'd be proud to meet.

Thanks all, for the welcome and kind words. I'm enjoying reading about all the projects on the Grid, and watching the numbers grow. It's fun to be a part of the XS team.

I retired in April, so lots of time for my hobbies - and this is a good way to justify putting all those spare components to work!

Hey ... and thanks for marroooooooning me, Movieman - I'll do my best to live up to the new look

I bet you're starting to regret joining up now, aren't you? I wonder why I subject myself to this madness every time I log in. Still haven't been able to figure out why I do it, and yet I keep coming back...

My friend, we all do "what we can"..
Never think that what you contribute means any less than anyone else.
Finances and level of comitment determine the daily output of the members but numbers mean nothing when you look at the hearts of the people involved.
I never look up at someone doing more than me and let it bother me just as I never look down at anyone doing less than me.
Yes, we do tease but it's something on a certain "level" that has no real true meaning..
