    Gigabyte EX58-Extreme meets Intel 975

I had a couple of run-ins with motherboard from Gigabyte over the years - and I used to HATE them. Their boards were always too full of gimmicks and nothing ever appeared to be in harmony for the overclocker in me. But things have changed tremendously. In the past couple of weeks I was able to spend some quality time with the EX58 and benching has been a blast with their latest top of the line product.
Here's some SS of some benchmarks:

One of the key things of obtaining these CPU clocks were lowering CPU PLLs, I will try to go thru my different HDDs to find the settings and more screeny of the bench fest.

Nobody can bench that board as high as Fugger - but I tell you it's worth pushing it a little bit - very rewarding - espcially on air!

Pushing this board on the limit is a different story - placement of caps etc. is very close to the cpu socket - condensation. abuse etc. can easily leave you with a dead chip. So caution is advised benching at "high voltage"...

1.552V in CPUZ... so you should be using 1.57V in BIOS? Nice result :P

that is one of the problems with the board on extreme cooling - 1.59xV=1.561v; 1.6V = 1.563xV. 1.6075=1.63V

    Very nice results Mike!
I love the board on air as well, I have not tested it cold though, what kind of cold bugs were you seeing?

    Great numbers

The EX58 Extreme is definitely one of the smoothest clocking boards out there.

Impressive overclocking with that board. I've got one inbound, really looking forward to benching with it. Will keep in mind the condensation warning

Mike what the highest BCLK clock you have on this board? This seem like a better board for maybe 965 and 975 because of the unlocked multiplier. Other processors seem to hit the bclk wall of 222 often, even on cold like ln2.

Thats great cpu efficiency so far those, with 5500mhz+ I think you should break 38000

Nice, would be great if the i7's didn't have the cold bug and it would have been great to see if it couild overclock over 6Ghz like the Phenom II's.

Coldbug doesn't really matter on i7 as most chips can max out at temps way below coldbug-temps.

boot coldbug is around -70C with my CPU, on the evag it's about -40C - so this makes life a bit easier, but on the other hand I coldbug with HT enabled around -80C. Initially I thought there were some bugs - but I managed to get the system quiet stable at my clocks. FI you play with certain voltages - boot coldbug gets a lot worse - forgot at this point what they were...

thanks - yeah got a couple of more scores at 05 that are a bit better but benched @ LN2 - - there scores were done at -72C

You'll love that board - it very nice at PCMarking and awesome in efficiency

The problem is my settings change from bench to bench but I'll post some images with gigabyte tool open soon

thanks mate - I see you pushing the 975 very hard as well! Awesome! Yes on air the gigabyte appears much faster then the evga, but at top speeds I have a feeling that the gap narrows. I will give the evga another go and see how close they are

the highest bclock was 222 for me - no chance to go any higher. But from what I heard there should be a bios out soon that addresses the bclocks. No chance whatsoever to go much above 5.3ghz on this CPU unfortunately - I have been trying for days to somehow find a miracle setting that will take me above 5.3...

thanks mate - smooth it is. Only complaint is that after about 30-45 minutes of very hard subzero benching you loose about 20mhz..

thanks - been fun benching the board - but I have to tell I have a chip now with precisely the same mark on one pin as you 940XE

I actually can pull the cpu temp down to minus -160C without it crashing - but only when idle..

Here's a 32M - clocks are actually ~ 5560mhz forgot to take screenshot before I clocked down for saving ...Only tweak was maxmem at 600 - I am too lazy to figure out all the tweaks for SuperPi - never been one of my favorites for some reason...def. not gonna bother with copywaaza and whatnot...

in this image you can see some voltages for my settings, but I promise I take the time soon to write evverything down. DRAM termintation values are all wrong - I am always at 50% of dram voltage

    At 3DMark03 I was running :
    Bios settings:
    vocre: 1.64v
    cpu PLL: 1.6V
    VTT: 1.65
    IOH: 1.28V
    PCI-E: 1.54
    CPU skew - 200ps
    everything else pretty much auto
