Which RAM should I get for i7 920?

    Hey guys,

I can't decide which RAM to get for my i7 upgrade. Here is a few of the kits I am looking at. The prices are in AUD.

    I'm looking at these kits:

    Corsair TR3X6G1600C8D 6GB http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?...oducts_id=8670

    OCZ DDR3 PC3-12800 Intel i7 Edition http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?...oducts_id=8657

    OCZ DDR3 PC3-12800 Platinum 3x2GB http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?...oducts_id=8648

    OCZ DDR3 PC3-15000 Reaper 3x2GB http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?...oducts_id=8698

    G Skill PC3-12800 PI http://newgskill.web-bi.net/bbs/view...d=g_ddr3&no=59

I'm a novice overclocker so I don't really know much about timings and all that stuff. So I have a few questions about those kits I posted:

    1. Which kit would be the best out of those?

    2. Which kit would overclock the best?

    3. Which kit would be more suitable for my particular situation(Asus P6T, Either a D0 920 or W3520 and looking to get between 4000-4200Mhz)?

    4. Is there a different/better kit I should be looking at in that price range?

Not sure of the price of the Pi in AUS, but out of that list, OCZ DDR3 PC3-12800 Intel i7 Edition seem to fit your needs and then some.
    GB 790XTA UD4
    GSkill Pi Black 2000 Cas9
    ASUS 4870
    Enermax Revolution 1050+

The PI is about $199 AUD.

What is the difference between the PI and PI Black that you have?

OK guys I have narrowed it down to these two kits.

OCZ Platinum OCZ3P1600LV6GK C7 kit Vs this Corsair TR3X6G1600C7 kit.

Which one should I go with? Which would overclock better?

Pretty much narrowed down to these kits also myself.

The only test I was able to find where these two went head-to-head was a German magazine called PC Games & Hardware:

    http://www.etest-hardware.de/Testueb...-RAM.7133.html

TR3X6G1600C7 came 3rd in that test, just below the Elpida Hyper based Blades and Dominator GT modules, and above the OCZ3P1600LV6GK in question.

Where I'm at OCZ is cheaper, but your situation may vary. Don't know the difference between the chips inside, if any. I know they ain't Elpida Hyper, which is good
