    Some results from - Windows 7 + Turbo mode fixed 12x multi issue [DFI UT X58] - research


    No probs pushing higher for me on 21x with W3520 now, i7 Turbo says max Calculated and MSR multi is 21x under load and 3dmark06 cpu score confirms it is working at 21x210Bclk with VID = AUTO + VID Special Add = 110.1% for 1.088v idle and 1.312v load vcore when CxE set to C1E.

    Running at near the max of CPU VID Special Add Limit = Enabled max selectable CPU VID Special Add: 114.17% with CPU VID Control = AUTO which gives me 1.136V idle vcore and max vcore under load of 1.376v. More >114.88% you need to disable CPU VID Special Add Limit but that cancels out the work around fix for Turbo multi and ends up with cpu multi at between 12x to 18x instead of at 21x under load.

    I'm glad I found this...I'm almost finished building a system with the DFI X58 UT board and a W3520...My memory is not as good though (G.Skill DDR3-2000 8-8-8) and I'm using a 4870x2 as well...at least I have a guide now. Good work as always Eva...4.4ghz with 1.08 vcore is amazing...and temps seem to be under control too. What kind of cooling did you use here? I have a Xigmatek Thor's Hammer but am too lazy to rip it out of my fully functional C0 i7 system...for now I'm gonna use a Xigmatek Dark Knight with the proper back plate and screws. Hopefully it will hold up well. I remember you mentioning in a previous thread that putting a fan on the heatsinks for the digital phase power was important so I got one of those Antec spot fans just for this.

    There is a warning on the DFI homepage, advising against loading items from CMOS reloaded without updating via ABS whats will occur if you DO!!

    I am experiencing problems exceeding 200Mhz BCLK, i have a stable OC at 200MHz and turbo (24hr OCCT run) at 1.35Vcore 1.36(I think) VTT using the latest beta bios. I tried doing +1Mhz more and the OC failed OCCT tests, I went up on the voltages to 1.4 on both VTT and Vcore to no avail. My IOH is on 1.9 and memory underclocked to *6 with uncore at *12. RAM at 1.65v for all tests.

    There must be something I am missing!! I noticed there is another guy with similar problems possibly we are both doing something wrong.

    PLease advise.

    Second,... I just finished my DFI x58 UT + 920 D0 build yesterday, poped the bclk @ 166, HT&Turbo ON, installed OS and all the other stuff... Later i started to play with the clocks, i have noticed some weird noises from the PWM area. When SYSTEM temp. hits around 58-59° under small FFT's prime, the board starts to sing - whistle. This stops immediately when i stop the torture test. My question is, is this safe? What are safe 24/7 temperatures for the PWM and NB?

    Damn Eva those CPU's are so fab... how high can you get the Uncore speed on them, I'm still completely stuck at 3800mhz (already need 1.5 voltage for it) 4000mhz my CPU doesn't do at all (not even at 1.65 )

    what are you full hardware specs/mem used?/cooling ?, d0 or c0 cpu and bios settings you used ? Use template at http://i4memory.com/f80/dfi-lp-ut-x5...emplate-12919/ to post your settings you have tried. Tried bumping vcore ?

    i have noisy fans in use so haven't noticed any noise myself. If there is any.. it's probably safe.. someone correct me if i'm wrong

    Thanks, all 4 cpus, i7 920 x 4 are at limit of memory frequency of around DDR3-2208-2286mhz 7-8-7-20 1T - 20x uncore multi gives me 4400-4580mhz for uncore for super pi 32M/benching on air and water cooled cpu. For higher uncore you need colder cpu temps i.e. sub zero hence helps with mem clocks too I suspect. I haven't found max for w3520 yet, hoping to get >DDR3-2208-2286Mhz 7-8-7-20 1T for super pi 32m

    Haven't tried higher in terms of softmod GPU volts, but held back by a weaker 2nd HD4870x2. My HIS HD4870x2 does 860mhz GPU out of the box, but Gigabyte HD4870x2 stuck around 840mhz GPU out of the box. I use Rivatuner softmod for voltage to get weaker HD4870x2 to 862mhz in vantage and all benchies excep 3dmark06 - for some reason GT2 freezes if Gigabyte HD4870x2 uses >847mhz even with up to 1.4v GPU volts applied

    I see you guys are talking about GPU, and I've been trying to get the PCIe-frequency over 100 with a GTX 295.

    I could never boot with PCIe>100 with my good old CO, but now (with w3520) i can get into W7 with PCIe=105. This requires almost no tweaks and my desktop-applications seams to be running fine with no problems, but my display freezes (and sound loops) a few minutes into Crysis (even with GPU down clocked to stock). I have tried to give a bit more juice to SB by raising the following Voltage:

    IOH/ICH 1.1V Voltage: 1.21v
    IOH Analog Voltage: 1.20v
    ICH 1.5 Voltage: 1.7v

    but the problem remains. I hear that this can be a GTX 295/SLI-issue. Any advise what else could help to stabilize high PCIe-frequencies on a multi-GPU/SLI-setup?

    Can't seem to get over 200BCLK stable, I have bolded all items I have changed. I noticed you have been using AUTO for your CPU Vcore and using special add to increase the voltages. Are there any advantages to doing this over just increasing the VCore manually?

    Again, I am using the latest beta bios from DFI 0508

    Maybe i found the reason for burning my motherboard, the Mips cooler on south bridge do not cool the circled area.

    Since I found the reason for my dead card, I'll stay with DFI and buy another, this time just adding a licquid cooler to the original DFI heatpipe assembly.

    Now that i have more time, im trying to get 4ghzs from my 920, but without success
    Itīs strange. No problem with 3,8 HT ON at 1,248v(1,26v in bios), but when i tried 200x20 or 211x19, even without HT, prime freezes in a 10-15seg. No matter what i try. I can reach windows with the same config for 3,8(1,26 vcore/1,24vtt), but even with 1,37v vcore/vtt, prime always freezes at the same time.
    Any idea/advice/tip?

    wow first time seeing such an app.. apparently it's something reserved for new DFI boards and ABS2 function - but not sure. Will ask DFI.

    never used GTX 280/285/295 so not sure. With my HD4870x2 x2 CF can can bench up to 110-115mhz PCI-E without problems but it varied between cpu to cpu for my 4x i7 920 c0/d0 and w3520. Maybe look at your lowgap value ? for 2x GTX 295 SLI need at least 2048. If you have other PCI-E/PCI devices i.e. sound card might need lowgap between 2560 and 3072

    no advantage i know of, only used it as my w3520 cpu has a turbo 21x multi issue when using windows 7 OS only. WinXP/Vista doesn't have this issue which forces 12x multi for cpu in turbo mode on win7 (see last link in first post in this thread). This auto vid etc is work around for this until DFI releases a new bios (which they're working on).

    bclk will vary from cpu to cpu as to what voltages are needed - mainly for me it comes down to and centered around cpu vtt voltage. Get cpu vtt voltage right and subsequent vdimm balance within 0.5v of cpu vtt, and rest usually fall in place. Although, higher your push memory with bclk, more likely need ioh/ich voltage to help too. (again mentioned in 3rd link in first post in this thread http://i4memory.com/f80/i7-920-d0-df...ability-16617/ (everything you ever you need are in first post's links )

    Since I found the reason for my dead card, I'll stay with DFI and buy another, this time just adding a licquid cooler to the original DFI heatpipe assembly.

    ah forgot you're using pre-retail sample DFI UT X58 from that photo it doesn't have the DMM read points etc. New retail board probably better

    As i mentioned every cpu is different (1st link in first post - tip #2 and #3 http://i4memory.com/102537-post3.html), each cpu will have optimal cpu vtt requirements for bclk scaling and remember as you increase cpu multiplier the same bclk which was stable on lower cpu multiplier, might need more cpu vtt on higher cpu multiplier.

    i.e. 19x200bclk might be fine with 1.37v cpu vtt, but 20x200 bclk might need 1.39-1.47v cpu vtt, 21x200bclk might need 1.39-1.55v cpu vtt. All depends on your individual cpu. Also cpu vtt voltage needed will also depend on your uncore frequency. The higher QPI frequency the more cpu vtt volts is needed. The higher the uncore frequency more vdimm is needed.     I was able to cross 200MHz BCLK, I set my core voltage to auto and adjusted using special add as I saw thats what eva did. I am impressed it seems that at idle my voltages go as low as 1.04v and on load as high as 1.42v.

    Am I correct in saying that special add will increase the core voltage as it becomes necessary?
