Win7 Beta users Update to RC before June

    Hi Guys,

Just wanted to let you know (Most of you probably know anyway) that your install of Win7 Beta will start shutting down every 2 hours. So not good if you're crunching!

    >>>>>
IMPORTANT REMINDER ABOUT BETA EXPIRATION DATE

Thanks again for your help in testing the Windows 7 Beta.

We’re sending this mail to remind you that Windows 7 Release candidate is available and to make sure you plan ahead for when the Beta expires on August 1, 2009. On June 1, 2009, the PC you’re using to test the Beta will begin shutting down every two hours. Windows will send you a notice a couple of weeks in advance, and that’d be the ideal time to rebuild your test PC with a non-expired version of Windows, such as the RC or Windows Vista. This will be a clean installation, so be ready to reinstall your programs and data. (Learn more about installing Windows.)

Already swapped to RC1 on my laptop, and the desktop has moved to Win7 now too, since RC1 fixed an issue with my soundcard.

I'm lazy to reinstall my dual harper, that's where it's running now, plus i don't have the heart to stop 8 working wus
OTOH i got also a link to test 2008 Server RC, so i may install that one instead.

That is still valid, the Beta version and the RC1 (build 7100) have different expiration dates.

that's kinda what I thought, but the June thing kinda scared me there for a minute. I was thinking grrrr-eat! another reformat on 3 machines..

I figure MS is doing this as a marketing tool more than anything else.. they know enough people will hop on the free RC bandwagon, by the time release comes around, users have been using it for the last 9 months and it will create a consumer NEED before the RC expires. if it was a crappy OS, that would backfire, but it's pretty good from my experience--so it's a sound marketing plan..

    1. It's July, not June - they made a mistake.
    2. You can upgrade builds 70xx to 7100 (RC) without reinstalling Windows and apps - just follow the guide.

You can actually skip half the crap they do in that Instead of copying to a USB key and booting from it, just copy the files to the HDD, modify the file, and then run the setup.exe off the HDD from within Windows. You need to run setup from within Windows to upgrade anyway.
