Had to go dig up a PCI graphics card to flash original bios again.

Not to sure why this would not work on my Ref. ASUS 4890 but i was in big hopes it would

Guess i will keep using Voltage Factory to increase voltages. SmartDoctor is rubbish as RivaTuner pluggin is too.

I could always try to modify my oem bios 3d voltage some day but then the CCC limit of 1000mhz will come into play

Ok, I've got my two 4890s in Crossfire, getting ready to put the waterblocks on them. What is the easiest way to O/C both cards and do voltage tweaks to them at the same time? I know Rivatuner doesn't support multi-gpu o/cing. Would love to just flash the BIOS on both if RBE allows voltage tweaks (if this is the case, is there a guide out for BIOS voltage tweaking?)

I wonder if Boostfed's problem is isolated or if other non-XFX owners are going to have an issue?

If your card won't do 1GHz with 1.43V, it wont work, as simple as that. Test it first with VoltageFactory and CCC/Rivatuner before flashing.

i think you are very unlucky if your stock 4890 wont do 1000mhz @1.43v....

personally i would use crysis as a stability test for this bios... i wouldnt use furmark...

My Sapphire on the other PC goes to 1000MHz with only 1.37v. I put a link to RivaTuner in the registry startup so it increases the voltage on boot. The CCC does the rest: 1000/1150. I would flash the card as it works perfectly with no artifacts like that, but the warning message about messing with the voltage registers scares me :p

Yeah you know, RBE (Radeon Bios Editor) issues a warning that says your BIOS will never work again when you try to modify the registers. Might just be a disclaimer, but i don't wanna fry my 4890

I have Sapphire HD4890 1GB and I just flashed that XFX BIOS, but no success. There appears a warning, that "one of the card power connectors is not connected to PSU bla bla bla..."

But I moded my card's def BIOS and that voltage setting works fine (~1,45/1,47V 2D/3D). Tho, theres no need for that Vgpu 24/7; PWM area gets pretty hot. And max Vgpu with soft is still ~1,49V@3D load.

SNiiPE_DoGG, sry, I wrote wrong. 2D is ~1,06V orsmth like that. I meant "idle" 3D and "full load" 3D.

BooStFeD, look post #17 in first page. Change that 0x18 value to 1,4375. "Def" 3D should be 1,3125.

my flight home was canceled today and i've got to wait until the 16th for another flight... but i will test my xfx card then...

all though we have still made some progress, now that we are gaining some familiarity with the 4890 voltage(register) settings...

i at least know that i will be able to modify my bios as soon as i get back (using RBE) and have a 4890 work permanently @ 1ghz in 3d apps.....

i cant see any reason to buy a 1ghz card now that we have this info....
the amount of 4890 gpu's that cant hit 1ghz are few compared to the amount of cards that reportedly can....
    mine does 1ghz @ 1.375v
    happy days....
