So there is no HD4750 GDDR3?
This is really confusing and the specs are so close to HD4770

CPU: Phenom II X4 955BE
Clock: 4200MHz 1.4375v
Memory: Dominator GT 2x2GB 1600MHz 6-6-6-20 1.65v
Motherboard: ASUS Crosshair IV Formula
GPU: HD 5770
this card have the rv740 with locked SMIDs? if that is not the case, than this is very strange, with just 50mhz less on the core and 100mhz more on the memory... and 2 power connectors!?
or this thing uses the rv770? rv730!?
EDIT: Screw it.
I think this is a 640SP version of RV770 (4850/70) with crippled memory bus, clocked at 700Mhz. But it uses GDDR5 so that's handled.
If it's what I speculated, it MIGHT need the second power connector, but will be closer to the 4870 than the 4770.

Could it be one of those flash-BIOS-at your-own-risk-get-better-performance-cards that sometimes shows up at the end of a product cycle?
I can't remember which card I'm thinking of, but it was a X1000-series or older.
Yep, secondary power connector makes no sense at all, wether it's a crippled RV770 or a downclocked RV740.
I would expect a card called HD4730 to be a single-slot card with GDDR3 memory and no power connectors at all.

I think the PCB layout can give us a hint. It looks identical to one of their 4870 except for the heatsink. Still my bet: New BIOS and you've got a 4870 and voided warranty! Missing component behind the lowest cap tho.

how do they go from 256bit to 128bit memory with just a different bios
How can you see that from this angle? The upper row is covered by the HS, and the column is there, or at least the lowest chip. Compare with the lower left here.
Apparantly it is just meant to be a 55 nm 4830 with 128 bit GDDR5 instead of 256 bit GDDR3.
This Powercolor version looks like an overclocked PCS+ .
Hmm, in RV 770, buswidth is tied with the ROP group, right ? So, with 128 bit, instead of 16 ROPs, you've got yourself a royally castrated 8 ROPs GPU card, a weeny bit stronger than HD 4670, with double the SPs, but same TMUs (32) and ROPs (8). Bandwith is certainly better with GDDR5.
The situation right now seems a little unfavorable for AMD as the Radeon HD 4770 stocks ran dry the moment the cards hit the market. Switching over to Radeon HD 4850 and HD 4830 might help a little but it seems HD 4830 stocks are running dry too.
As such, AMD is planning on releasing a new Radeon HD 4730 card into the market. However, this card isn't based on the 40nm RV740 part but the 55nm RV770. In fact, it is a strip down version of the HD 4830 (RV770LE) codenamed RV770CE but boosted with GDDR5 memories. However, you may not be seeing mass availability as it is only available in limited quantities for certain regions whose HD 4830 stocks have ran dry.
Pricing is unclear yet but it is certainly going to be cheaper than the current HD 4830 cards out there. If you do a search in VR-Zone shopping portal, you will find that HD 4830 cards are selling for US$90.

Hmm, I think I would take 4730 over a 4830. thats just wierd
Seems Rv770 yields might not have been that good. obviously they would have just made more 4830's with these if they were able to.

Particle's First Rule of Online Technical Discussion:
As a thread about any computer related subject has its length approach infinity, the likelihood and inevitability of a poorly constructed AMD vs. Intel fight also exponentially increases.
Rule 1A:
Likewise, the frequency of a car pseudoanalogy to explain a technical concept increases with thread length. This will make many people chuckle, as computer people are rarely knowledgeable about vehicular mechanics.
Rule 2:
When confronted with a post that is contrary to what a poster likes, believes, or most often wants to be correct, the poster will pick out only minor details that are largely irrelevant in an attempt to shut out the conflicting idea. The core of the post will be left alone since it isn't easy to contradict what the person is actually saying.
Rule 2A:
When a poster cannot properly refute a post they do not like (as described above), the poster will most likely invent fictitious counter-points and/or begin to attack the other's credibility in feeble ways that are dramatic but irrelevant. Do not underestimate this tactic, as in the online world this will sway many observers. Do not forget: Correctness is decided only by what is said last, the most loudly, or with greatest repetition.
Remember: When debating online, everyone else is ALWAYS wrong if they do not agree with you!
Fuad has something to say about it:

That's usual fuad bs...the double connector and the pcb prove that it's rv770 without any doubt.
Regarding the rv740 yield problems being related to frequencies, I don't buy it too, how come the good cores hit almost 1 ghz on overclock and the bad can't run at 750?
Peraphs there's some truth anyway, 4730 might switch to rv740 once rv770 supplies dry out

HD 4770 effectively killed GF 9800GT, and this beauty will kill GF 9600GT!
