OC, open the manager and goto processor preferences and turn your processor limits up to 100 across the board. that's what I did and it fixed it. the x64 client didnt have this issue, because they were already at 100. the 32 was at 60 by default. if you're on a x64 os, disch that 32 client and get the x64 client, it's better anyway. http://boinc.berkeley.edu/download_all.php

Thanks mellowyellow! The widget from the WCG site doesn't work for forums, I think it's for websites/blogs.

There are a few other sig graphics you can make to show off BOINC points though, If you're interested. The one I use is from allprojectstats.com.

    Instructions here http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=225576

Also there apparently is one you can get at free-dc which I have not tried yet.

There's a link to the guide in this thread http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=147919

And lastly, welcome to the team! I can't believe I forgot to say that the first time around

We are both. We help each other with deep conversation and pictures of half naked women. It helps calm the chemicals in our brains from causes mental issues.

Yeah, you know that looks cool - it does that because default is at 60% meaning it only uses your computer 60% of the time (cycling on for 3 periods then off for 2). WCG set that in order to prevent heating issues in machines that didn't have the cooling capabilities - but seeing as you're running a Q6600 @ stock (if it's your sig) and you're at XS that shouldn't be a problem.

Here's what you do to fix it. Click advanced view in the bottom right corner. Then go to the menu 'advanced' to 'preferences.' Click the first tab 'processor usage' and make sure both the bottom blanks preceded by 'use at most' are filled with 100%.

Happy Crunching! and don't pass me to fast!

Hey guys I just joined the team with a lowly E8400 at the moment but I'm looking to do some serious crunching once I order my new parts in about a week once I've finished the preperations on my case.

All I need now is to figure out how to get myself one of those swanky sigs.

Cheers oldchap I'll have a look at those later.

No perkam it was surprisingly easy, and surprisingly addictive. I'm already looking at what I have here to cobble together to fold whilst I construct my new rig.

I would be running my laptop as well but the CPU temps were at a constant 60 degrees so I'll lay of that for now (with the turbo button on they were touching 70.)

There are three things you can do if you want to lower temps - probably the best way would be to undervolt it. Lower temps, and power consumption, but hardest to do.

Second, run something like TThrottle. I used it once and if it reads your temps accurately it's quite good, but will lower ppd (but some is better than none right?)

Or third, just hit powersaving mode since it's a laptop. Many laptops, especially newer ones, will lower the frequency, and therefore the temp. By far the easiest, but has the largest impact on points.

(or i guess you could always just set it in the fridge. Works when I'm not using mine!)
