Downsides with sucking air from the "floor" (need fast answer!)

    Hello!

Just a quick question. What are the downsides with a rad sucking air from underneath the chassis? I.e fans sucking air from the floor.

I know dust is a issue. Is it better to suck air from the side? Like a TJ07.

Time is a issue here. If Im sucking air from the bot ill be getting a 480 instead of a 360. I'm ordering In 1h or so!

Yes dust is the main issue.

Would YOU recommend to suck air from the sides instead? And changing from a a 480 to a 360 rad?

I'm thinking to go with the 360 myself but I'm not sure...

Just get some dust filters for 480 and dust won't be a problem. Even with airflow lowered by the filters it should easily outperform the 360.

you should also consider that you need a certain amount of clearance and gap from the floor for it to be effective. if the case gap is too close to the floor, then airflow is rather restrictive and you'll lose performance. i'm unsure on the minimum clearance though. could someone chime in on this minimum clearance gap?

No real issue besides roaches stuck to the bottom of
    your case

You will get dust any where you have fans pulling air in your case.
Unless you are in a class 100 clean room.

I'd like to know that as well, mine(PA 120.3) was running this way and it worked just fine with a ~1" of clearance. That was cooling a 920 and a 4870x2, might want to hear from someone else to be sure of that though.

hmm, Ill think I will be going with the 360 and pulling air from the side strait trough the chassis. I'm having a 480 in the front anyway. A 480 + 360 with 1450rpm fans should be enough for just about any system. I think 2*480 will be overkill. And they are on separate loops with a DDC3,2 each.

But when you go low-rpm you need to compensate with many rads

Edit: forgot that here on XS is nothing overkill

Just ordered a 480 + 360 so I'm going to take air from the sides. I'm going to use pull and push on the 360. So I really think it will be no problem there.

    Thanks for your time!

I'm curious to the answer of this as well. I'm working on a new comp and I was thinking of situating one of my radiators on the bottom of the case as well. So what is the minimum recommended clearance between the bottom of the case and the ground underneath for air intake to be effective?

Remember Creepshow? The guy in the clean room/apartment who ended up getting killed by the roaches...lol

Seems like you made the right choice.

I personally think drawing air up from the bottom is a bad idea. If you were to ever forced place the computer on a carpet, it would probably impede the airflow significantly.
