EVGA Classified meet my 965 CPU's

    Hi all!

This weekend I had a short session with EVGA Classified. This motherboard came from Jimm's PC store, which is the best place to buy overclocking enthusiast stuff in Finland. Thank you guys!

    Setup:

    EVGA X58 Classified
Core i7 965 ES SSSSCP edition (Named by Dinos22)
    Core i7 965 Retail 3836B149
    Core i7 920 D0 3850A807
ASUS GTX 295 on full 3DMark Vantage runs
ATI Radeon 4890 during CPU testing
    Mushkin 998696 Elpida (BBSE) memory
    2x Thermaltake 1200W Toughpower
    Dimastech benchtable
    SF3D LN2 pot

Idea of the session was to see the limits of these CPU's on Classified motherboard. I was not very eager to believe the claims I have heard.
I have to admit, that I was wrong

    Pictures:

    Retail 965 on air:

    Retail 965 on LN2

    965 ES on LN2

    965 ES on LN2

    920 D0 (BCLK limited )

That was it this time. Next weekend I hope to do some Spi 32M with this motherboard. Today 5.5GHz CPU-Z "stability" was not hard with the last drops of LN2 5.4GHz 32M is stable with waza etc. for sure this time

Why bclock limited at only 225MHz? This board goes 250Mhz+ without any problems and I didn't see any CPU with so low bclock wall !

Yes, I do believe it now

I have to see it with my own eyes first. Skepticism is a good thing usually

I had usual problems with OS. My correct Vista was giving "creating vertex shader" errors and I had to use my AMD installation. My performance in Vantage was very low today.

Well, new sessions --> better luck

Nice work, man. One of my best friends is drooling over this board. I told him that if he buys it he has to do extreme cooling on it or he's wasting it's potential (not to mention $150) and therefore is lame. He's planning on watercooling the CPU and chipset, but no LN2 or anything subzero. Have to give him heck for that ....

Seriously, though. EVGA is sparing no expense on this board, and from what I've read, they got it all right and this board just freaking has it all. I think EVGA making i7 boards has really "set them free" so to speak. After 4 nVidia boards that were pretty much piles of doggy doo doo (OK, only two of them were crappy - the others just didn't overclock hardly at all and were finicky as all heck) I am excited to be back on an Intel chipset. No finicky RAM problems (my RAM doesn't even match!) no weird FSB holes, no random reboots at stock settings, etc. etc. ...

I'm glad you're kicking butt with this. Great job!

    Thanks guys!

My performance in 3D was so weak for some unknown reason, that it is hard to say anything for sure at the moment.

Temperatures were around -110C with both CPU's. ES have a nasty cold boot bug at -22C.. booting at 4.9GH and then cool it down an go.

I got my 920 to go up to 225BCLK on air, so it was some wrong settings on that quick test. This CPU is not a BCLK gem, that is for sure.

Yes of course. Next session will be a lot better, cause now I know what these part can do.

Next I have to try my new RIIE in vantage (QSLI runs). 3D performance and efficiency still seems to be better on that board.

    Update (920 D0 on aircooling)

Like I told in first post, I tested this D0 920 CPU very quickly. Now, I took some time to investigate the setup and found out, that this combo can make some pretty high BCLK numbers

Setup is aircooled in "hot" room. 26C at the moment

Here is the Vantage on all 8 threads (BCLK 228):

Here is the max validation (BCLK 234):

    Validation link:
    http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=564535

Quite good, or what do you guys think?

Next I will check how high this CPU can go in MHz
