just curious what would be the first thing to cook this psu my dads died 3days ago burnt out the 8pin cpu connector.just curious to find out if this is a common fault .
he runs a amd FX74x2@3ghz

Probably thermal failure of a cap. Very High Probability!
Get a Corsair HX1000 for about $100@Provantage!
if the 8-pin connector burned then it was poor contact from the pins in the connector or on the motherboard.

if you jumper the green and black on the 24pin connector, is there 12v out of the 8pin?
yes it out puts 4 x +12v &4x earth

sorry the board and psu have been rma'ed as they both have 3year warrenty. the motherboard connector was a very tight fit it's never been taken off since build.
