I got the opportunity to test the new PII 955 and I figured it was time to try AMD again after a few years of Intel-dominance. Also I needed to get some more LN2-benching done so I did some quick preparations. I had a nice start with my PSU giving up on me so I had to disamble my WS and use it's Corsair HX620 so I could bench some 2D + easy 3D atleast.
Big thanks to AMD (Firefly) and ASUS for providing hardware, and KTH for LN2 and lab space.
Rig specs
AMD Phenom II 955
ASUS M4A79 Deluxe
2x1GB Crucial Ballistix D9GMH
ASUS HD4870X2
Corsair HX620
Cooling as usual the F1EE and all mounted on Dimastech Benchtable
Results
I noticed pretty quickly that compared to results I've seen this cpu is mediocre but still the purpose of this session for me was to get to know the AMD platform again.
By clocking one core a bit higher than the others I was able to get a decent SPI1M (atleast using Vista and DDR2) at 6120MHz, the other cores at 5920MHz.
I also did a quick 06 with the single 4870X2, with dual cards it would've been somewhere around 34K.
The rig:
I didn't have time for any more this session but maybe next one with a better PSU (not that the Corsair is anything near bad) and dual gfx along with some 03+05+06 benching and the results should be a bit more exciting. It was really a blast benching this platform compared to the constant pains of the i7
