I see Micro Center still offers $229 Core i7 920's... anyone found D0 steppings with them yet? They must be turning over inventory quickly... (Edit: So far only a few reported. Link)

Thanks for the info Zip, I was really starting to wonder again.

The closest MicroCenter to here is in Houston, but I might as well drive to Dallas since that's the same distance! I'll have to call a friend for a favor if I hear they have any...

Edit: Thanks Paill, info is added.

    Thank you for this thread.
Frys in Renton (Washington) doesn't have D0 as of last Friday.
I emailed Tilatech and they said they are OOS of D0, although they have i7 available on their site so I am not sure if they have ever had any.

I agree... but waiting is so hard, I have all the hardware needed sitting here and this is my first Core i7 build. So hard to be patient!

Is amazing to hear that. Dell was selling Core i7 920's for $243 shipped a few days ago and people appeared to be buying them going by the Fatwallet thread.

No D0 at Microcenter in Chicago yet, I will check this weekend and if I find some, I will post it. I also have a friend keeping a eye on Tiger's inventory as well.

    Sure thing!

Frys was the only store more expensive than TankGuys! Unless they are cheaper in store? I was unhappy to be paying a $67 premium at TankGuys as it was, but seeing how much Frys wanted before taxes/shipping took the cake. More so if counting Dell's special or Microcenter's ongoing special, etc.

It was the only reason I didn't buy one sooner. Could almost argue that if one is going to pay that much of a premium for a D0 processor then why not buy a Core i7 950... gauranteed D0 stepping but with a 23x multi (vs 20) and supposedly better binned silicon. With watercooling I'll probably end up needing the higher multiplier anyway judging by how well these things are overclocking...

Oh well. I just know that I'm penny-pinching. That difference of $67 is enough to buy the watercooling block I will need for a Core i7.

Just an FYI to everyone too: People often refer to the "premium" we charge for chips. Just to clarify, it's not that we're marking them up a ton and making a lot of money, that couldn't be further from the truth. We make very little, in fact, and our pricing is purely a function of our volume, where we have to buy from, and the effort expended to get these special chips. Nobody is rolling in cash over here because of it

Thanks for the heads up TankGuys. Do you have an estimate on when you will be recieving more 920 D0 chips? I tried to purchase a pre-order last night with an ETA of May 1, 2009 but it wouldn't complete. Do you still support the pre-order on these chips?

    Thanks

    TigerDirect - cool.

If one of these guys would list that they have D0 they could ring sales all day long. I think Tigerdirect did that with the 1st C2D G0 stepping and sold a ton.

The current "guess" ETA of 5/1 still stands, but not promises yet, unfortunately. The pre-order version should be available still, if you can't get it to work, PM me and we'll go from there.

Yes, and this is a good point. Newegg gets their prices because they make the typical volume "bulk" order resemble small potatoes. I fully understand Newegg and other large retailers can get a volume discount ontop of the standard volume discount. My point was it just makes Fry's $330 cost seem outrageous because they do get special volume discounts y'all at TankGuys wouldn't be able to get. At least with you we get some real value (D0 Steppings) for what we are paying.

Eden, thanks for the heads up. I'll update the post again.

Yeah I was surprised. In store their price was around $300 after ~8.9% tax.

Fry's online price is $330... before ~8.9% in tax and before shipping.
