I've heard nothing officially....I tried calling him today but it went straight to voicemail (which was full).
I talked to him briefly on the 18th as he was taking the server down to add a tape backup (I think....some sort of external backing up mechanism, I don't know servers or databases), but the length of the downtime and considering we're on an old restore point makes me think something went wrong again. I'd like to think the data is in tact somewhere, but who knows.
Pretty ing annoying.
EDIT: and I saw some talk about a memory upgrade on TPU--yes, there was memory in bound, not sure if it got there on time or was going to be added--but we all know mem upgrades take 5 minutes (especially on systems where you can't change timings or voltages or w/e), it's pretty ridiculous to think that's what caused the downtime.

Bah! Now I have to retype my whole FS thread!
I lost my posts AND my avatar changed to my old one.
This is great to see how many people will put up with this bullsh*t. The XS hardcore will be separated from those that like a working forum.

Listen a minute:
I don't like it any more than you do but life "ain't always the way we want it"
You redo your posts, you change your avatar back to what it as and life goes on.
As to anyone that lost work logs or "important stuff" my sugestion is to post in the section they were in and ask if anyone there was subscribed and had email notification of the thread and that can get you back all that was posted by you.
I am assuming that anyone that had pics posted in a thread keeps the pics so it may well be able to rebuild your lost data without too much trouble.
Good Luck to all.

Fully agree, I don't visit XS that often anymore, but a lot of times I wanted to go on it was down.
May I remind the people here that it has been like this for ages and ages, no not the last year, but for years. I think XS has one of the most unreliable service records of any forum I have visited.
This is a complete failure, and I'm surprised people put up with this if you think of all the reasons why this shouldn't be happening. Admin 101.
If you did this at a company, you'd be fired.

Heh, glad I just got here, well to post anyway.
And this is why hobbyists shouldn't run production systems.
Does anyone know the reason for the down time? Something die in Serverland?
Is it time to pitch in for a "XS Stable Server Fund"?
