    CPU temp vs water temp

    Hi all,

I just finished installing my watercooling (sig) and I have a question regarding temperatures at load. I measured my room temperature: 22*C and my water temps: 28*C. This is all normal as far as I know since I am using zalman F3’s at 900rpm. My CPU temps however seem somewhat high. Realtemp: 53-57 *C load WCG. Is it normal that the CPU temps are more than 25*C higher under load as the water temp?

What water block are you using? Just with a cpu only in my loop @ 513 x 8 i get max load wcg temps @ 38 on all 4 cores. I have an ambient of 18c. Your temps seem a bit high to me. Even when I have ambients of 22c, my load temps are only 1 to 2 deg higher at most.

I use a apogee GTZ, CPU loop only (see my sig).

My idle temps are about 5C higher than they were on air but there is a 35C advantage with load temps.

Idle about 40-43*C and load (WCG, so probably higher with prime or IBT) 53-57*C.

Idle is 3*C lower as my TRUE and load only 8*C

I would try a re mount for sure. Doesnt seem like your getting good contact.

Jeeze you volts are nice & low too. Did you take the block apart by chance to check out the internals? If so, did you assemble it correctly afterwords?

I will try a remount. I did take the block apart, so i will check if i put it together correctly. I think I did it correct, as i made extra sure i put it back together as when I disassembled it.

Thanks for the help. Now i know my temps are too high, which is what I suspected.

Ok, I remounted my block and my temps are still the same, but I noticed something. The part where the block makes contact with the IHS is a horizontal oval/line in the middle of the IHS. Is this correct or is the block bowed the wrong way, should it be vertical?

    Update:

I redid my entire loop to check a few things. I opened the block and changed the direction of the bowing insert, so the line that makes the best contact should now be vertically. I also noticed some minor clogging (these PA120.3’s are hard to clean) but this can probably not explain the high temps. When I refilled and bled my loop I made sure no air was trapped in the block.

All this made my temps go down about 4C. My load temps are now 51C with a water temp of 29C. Is this about right?

The only thing I can think of to do now is to lap the CPU as I saw some markings on the base of the GTZ from the sharp edges of the IHS. (Why can’t intel make these things nice and flat. Both my E6600 and Q9450 are about as flat as the Himalaya).
