I doubt that will happen. It's been almost 7 years since the 70-200mm f/2.8 and they haven't showed any intent on supplementing it. Which is strange considering they filled that market in bodies. A $6-700 70-200mm f/4 would go nicely with a D90 especially if it was a little smaller/lighter than the f/2.8.

Yeah, people don't want to sacrifice much optical quality for small size and weight will buy lenses like 70-200 f/4. I think Nikon can be able to win over Canon if they have that lens

I am currently in the market for a telephoto zoom to replace the 55-200mm I got with my D60 but the 70-200 or even the 80-200 is just too much. The F/4 will fill the gap perfect!

Seeing what some of you have in this thread makes me feel better about my camcorder purchase. Some of you have dropped big money I think.
Particle's First Rule of Online Technical Discussion:
As a thread about any computer related subject has its length approach infinity, the likelihood and inevitability of a poorly constructed AMD vs. Intel fight also exponentially increases.

    Rule 1A:
Likewise, the frequency of a car pseudoanalogy to explain a technical concept increases with thread length. This will make many people chuckle, as computer people are rarely knowledgeable about vehicular mechanics.

    Rule 2:
When confronted with a post that is contrary to what a poster likes, believes, or most often wants to be correct, the poster will pick out only minor details that are largely irrelevant in an attempt to shut out the conflicting idea. The core of the post will be left alone since it isn't easy to contradict what the person is actually saying.

    Rule 2A:
When a poster cannot properly refute a post they do not like (as described above), the poster will most likely invent fictitious counter-points and/or begin to attack the other's credibility in feeble ways that are dramatic but irrelevant. Do not underestimate this tactic, as in the online world this will sway many observers. Do not forget: Correctness is decided only by what is said last, the most loudly, or with greatest repetition.

    Rule 3:
When it comes to computer news, 70% of Internet rumors are outright fabricated, 20% are inaccurate enough to simply be discarded, and about 10% are based in reality. Grains of salt--become familiar with them.

Remember: When debating online, everyone else is ALWAYS wrong if they do not agree with you!

    Random Tip o' the Whatever
You just can't win. If your product offers feature A instead of B, people will moan how A is stupid and it didn't offer B. If your product offers B instead of A, they'll likewise complain and rant about how anyone's retarded cousin could figure out A is what the market wants.

All Canon L lenses are USMs, you must've meant IS.

Yes, I was asking if he had the IS version, or was it just USM.

(color, exposure and image variations were done purposely)
pictures taken with Canon 40D and Yashika 50mm F/1.7 M42 lens (using small jpeg mode in the camera so they were even full 10mp when i loaded them on the PC - size reduction is a little more than 50%)

no DSLR anymore. I had a Nikon D40 sold it last year, because i don't use it often. I decided to go with a Bridge camera, just picked up brand new Pannny FZ35. The camera blows me away, for such a tiny sensor. IQ is superb, of course in lowlight it struggles, but that is expected. But images are acceptable up to iso400 in lowlight. I also have old Canon AE-1 Program from 1982. Awesome fun camera, i shoot only B&W on it.

These aren't my pics. I currently have no pictures of my cameras

the canon has a great F1.4 50mm lens that it came with, very fast. Also 35-105mm, 20mm F2.0 Wide angle, and a 70-200mm Telephoto. All for under 120 dollars, all in amazing shape for their age. Sometimes ebay isn't so shabby
