    I have two ssd's and am getting some weird results
    I am running a copy of ycruncher on both.
    On one of my drives i get a little ways in that says Write Fault.
    Thoughts on this???? nothing i can do on the failing drives indicates its failing. Just ycruncher.

    Interesting. The error code 1167 according to Microsoft is:
    ERROR_DEVICE_NOT_CONNECTED
    1167 (0x48F)



    The device is not connected.
    So my guess is that the drive is un-mounting and re-mounting randomly. (even for a split second is enough)

    How are you connecting it? Is it USB-powerd?

    No it is via SATAII
    I also get the error code 5 Access Denied sometimes.
    Its just odd becuase no other drive tools can tell anything is wrong with the drive.
    Full formats work, Full Error Scan with HD Tune, Full chkdsk with repair, all SMART utils. ETC
    Anyways i am in the process of RMA'ing the drive. I know its the drive and nothing else becuase i have two of them and just do a swap and it works perfectly.

    some interesting temperature changes between the screens taken @ 33% & 73%. Southbridge/vrm1 temps jumped from +43/60C to +173/174C on AIDA64 and (MINUS) -173C on the IDU monitor.

    my v-o-m-t was showing 58-64c at all times.

    never saw this benchmark before running it just for the hell of it.

    I saw this and thought it was pretty interesting. This is what I turned out to get.
    I didnt have much time so I only got a few runs through.


    For the 25,000,000 run I got it in 3.606 seconds. Not to shabby I presume.



    This was the 50,000,000 run I did, hit it in 6.888 seconds.



    This one here was the 100,000,000 and managed 14.895 seconds.



    And last but not least the 250,000,000 run that lasted 42.435 seconds.


    All of this was a 3930k overclocked to 4.949 Ghz Vcore was 1.488 (a little high if you ask me :p i need to get that lower) RAM was 16 gigs of G.skill @ 2133 Mhz

    If I did anything wrong please tell me lol I dont want to make a fool of myself anymore than I am because I have a big feeling I did something wrong...

    There was some discussion of it. I've bounced a few emails back and forth between Massman. But it never materialized. Massman himself seemed pretty eager to try putting y-cruncher on HWbot, but I guess it didn't get enough community support.

    When running this on some new stuff I found something I would think is rather interesting. At less 400Mhz then my SB it takes ( ofc ) more time in "Computation Time", but the same time in "Total Time" it takes the same. This is funy because everything on the systems is the say except for the CPU and MB.

    It's been a hella long time since I posted here. I can almost smell the dust. Life's been catching up with me so I haven't had much time to give the program (and this thread) any love.

    I've updated the charts.

    Anyways, here's some early benchmarks of v0.6.1. Side-by-side comparisons of v0.5.5 and v0.6.1:

    Intel Core i7 2600K @ 4.2 GHz:


    2 x Intel Xeon X5482 Harpertown @ 3.2 GHz:



    A few things to notice:
    1. I've separated out the Division from the series computation. So now you can see the times for both.
    2. The two base conversion steps have been merged.


    Speed improvements to notice:
    1. The division is actually a lot faster than before. (You just can't see it since it was merged into the series step in v0.5.5.) New code, better algorithm.
    2. The InvSqrt (inverse square root) step is a tad faster. Again, new code, better algorithm.
    3. The base conversion is, for lack of a better word, crazy. Again new code - a ridiculously aggressive algorithm written from scratch.
    4. The series is a tad faster - and I don't really know why.

    The large multiplication code is the same as before. (for anything < 50 billion digits) Which is why I'm somewhat puzzled at why the series step is faster... I just rewrote it in a different way with very few (insignificant) improvements.


    Still a long way to go. Although it looks like it's ready, what you're seeing is just about the only thing that works. Swap mode is missing... Validation is missing... Tons of untested code.


    Overall, I didn't expect much speedup from v0.6.1 since it was just a rewrite to make the code more manageable. But I'll take 15% speedup any day.

    Just got my new AMD FX-8350. Still optimizing my overclock but here's some results at 5GHz.
    The 8350 @ 5GHz is about 10-15% faster than my old 8120 @ 4.8GHz. Hopefully an updated bios will boost performance a bit more.

    Nice times and multi-core efficiency CRFX. I am curious why you(CRFX) ran x64 see3 kasumi code path as opposed to the x64 AVX Hina code path? Maybe they can release a FMA code path that would be even faster. (leaning towards FMA3 because it will be supported by future intel haswell and current Amd piledriver cores as opposed to FMA4 which is AMD bulldozer and piledriver only afaik but if it is not to hard to make both it would be cool to compare on piledriver and see whats faster FMA3 or FMA4)

    I found the AVX Hina version way slower on both my bulldozer and piledriver chips. The Kasumi version is the fastest of all the executable included, for me at least.
    I noticed Y-cruncher 6.1 will include FMA4, so that should speed things up a bit.
