Dell presents Adamo - starting at 1999 US-Dollar

    HW:
    128 GB SSD
    1.2 GHz Core 2 Duo
    2 GB DDR3
    GMA X4500
    Price: 1999 USD

And with that Dell wants to fight the Air? Did somebody else read anything about the battery? I bet it is not removable...

€dith: Oh, and btw. Normally I'm not so self-righteous but: didn't I effin tell you Dell would do the exact same thing Apple did?

Oh that feels so effin good to be right.

I thought these new ULV cpus were supposed to be cheap..
And what's the production price for this? $400?

A horrible product (price/performance/usability-wise) that comes in the worst time possible for its release.
    Way to go, Dell...

One day, I'll go out and kill a designer everytime I read something like this.

    One day...

Make that two, the world definitely has too many designers.

I guess you guys don't know the secret to buying Dell laptops.

I'll be buying the Adamo from the Dell outlet for $800 in a few months with a 5 year warranty instead of paying $2000 for the retail version.

Well, it seems to be a nicely built thin and light business notebook. I'm looking for something that's a bit larger than my current 12" Latitude D420, which has a 1.06GHz Core Solo, by the way. I don't see what the clock speed has to do with the situation, since I'm targeting mobility and durability. I'm sick of the D420's slow 1.8" hard drive and the SSD should be a nice speed boost. The D420, like most laptops, also has a dim LCD screen, which this should improve on. I was already heavily considering the new Latitude E4300 but had some concerns about its LCD screen.

It's not like I'll be lacking in processor power, since I have a 3.6Ghz Q6600 in my desktop machine. Haven't you guys heard of SSH or Remote Desktop?

It's still more expensive then the Air which many (me included) consider to be too expensive. And last time I checked a glass display and a non-removable battery was not considered as a pro argument.

Or is it different when it's not an Apple but a Dell?

the air configured with ssd and ethernet jack costs 2328 and just give dell some time to perfect tooling for this laptop to make it cheaper and i hope the benefits of making de adamo goes down the line with the xps studio and studio laptops

i fail to see why you said that.

it is ultra portable and screen is usable i can use it in my classroom, in my room, in the office, in the airpor,t inside the plane, in the car, in the hotel, in a restaurant...

ultraportable doesnt mean you have to stand in the middle of sunlight all day

I think Manicdan is talking about the screens that are more like mirrors when there is a dark object being displayed, not about the screen being washed out by too much light.

think mainstream, if they want to sell more units, it has to do what people need from it. i sofar fail to see what their market it besides people who want something flashy. i can spend half that price and get something just as good, and spend the 1000$ difference on a really nice chair that will help with the back problems caused by carrying and extra 2-3lbs in my briefcase.
