Need Xs teams opinion.......all other replies not needed

Whats your guy's take on using unlocked cores in multithreaded tests....

I personally feel that it removes the skill out of benching in lets say wprime.....

It no longer requires skill just a little bit of luck getting a chip that will work....

Just like your thoughts on this I know the rules say its cool but integrity wise I think its rather lame as it's not an even playing field.

At the current submitted scores I can just blast it away on ln2 with 3 cores....however I can knock it out with 4 cores as well but would like your thoughts on it before I do so.

If I did I would probably list the "details" as "when everyone else wants to play on an even playing field score will be deleted...."

Imho its right up the same alley as "HP". NV with "a program we won't name" = 4 cores. NV without tweak = 3 core

To me its the same principle, score obtained with no skill.

Well, surely rich people also have an unfair advantage aswell then?
As they can try various chips until they find one that clocks well,
So for someone who can only afford one chip, its luck whether it will clock well or not.....

I would tend to agree with that, but the diff between a good chip and an average chip is no more than 300 mhz....we are talking about results that make the gap 1000mhz or greater.....

multithreaded benches for a chip that is submitted under a 3 core category should have 3 threads imho..that or there should be 2 categories for multithreaded so the competition does not excude the less fortunate sort of like the vidcard catergories, single card, 2 cards. So in multithreaded benches you have x3 3 thread wprime submissions for the not so fortunate, and 4core 4 thread submissions.......

    Yeah, I suppose
    But then again,
People might run more threads than the number of cores they have.....
(i tried 2 vs 4 threads, speed was similar, but 2 threads was more stable)
I suppose its a very difficult subject to decide on, and especially to regulate.
As all of the 720's can be unlocked yeah?
But some are more stable than others,
So, what do you count as having 4 usable cores?
I mean, Im not saying your wrong, i just dont know how it would be regulated, I do agree to an extent

regulation should be easy.......the Wprime result times speak for them selves.

Here take a look. BTW since I made this thread it appears one of the results were removed.......

    3826mhz 4 threads 4 cores
    http://www.hwbot.org/result.do?resultId=829371

    4720 3 cores 3 threads.....

Here we go chip 1 4 cores 4 threads 4gig, New WR for x3 720 1024M and 32m Wprime.....took me 30 min to come up with this speed half of that time was spent finding a bios to unlock it..........Anyone think skilll is a factor now? I think HW bot needs to ammend the rules........

Same cpu, same unlocked cores, higher NB........but ran the test with 3 threads......a little one sided don't you think?

I don't have a problem with running tri-cores cpus as 4 in general. But for benching I wish that tri cores should be limited to three threads. An opinion.

Yeesh, I didnt know the difference would be that great,
I tend to agree then, there should be seperate sections for a tri/quad 720 etc.....

    no separate section needed
    no blocking needed

    otherwise , why allow unlocked VGA? Athlon with L1 bridges crossed for unlocked multi? etc;
it's just another tweak available for the benching crowd. luck has always been a part of OCing, no change there either

I dunno... it used to be similar running wprime with the Core2Duo's, that 4 threads always outperformed using the default 2.

There's always a luck factor. To get to the top, you usually need skills AND a good chip. For now, a good chip is enough, but I can assure you that soon unlocked chips will be more popular and skills will be needed again.

yep but this is not running 4 threads on a 3core cpu, the cpu is now a 4 core with 4 threads, quite diff comparison.....

running 4 threads on 3 core does not improve score....

I'm sure skill will be a factor, those are just results i tossed up to show how grossly exaggerated the difference is and by far not my best

Opinion? Less whining and more benching. You don't like the rules or the playing field, it's simple, don't play.

Too funny man, it's one thing to whine when your at the bottom.....I was complaining about it while holding the top spot and still am......... really.......as for benching? my work rate speaks for itself......

I actually am probably one of the few proponents of grouping things by number of CPU's/GPU's. I don't agree with cards such as the 4870X2 and GTX295 being placed in the same category as 4870's and GTX285's, but most have no issue. Similarly I would personally prefer it if wPrime were grouped by # of cores, rather than socket. However, it's up to the majority of hwbot users, and the community seems to prefer grouping things by # of sockets/slots rather than physical cores.

Cool your jets though guys, or I will cool them for you...

    I'm with you man.
The CPU/GPU # ( Cores ) should be the judging factor for the categories and not the sockets/slots.

Thats the only point I was trying to get across, and I agree 100%, your way of saying it is less abrasive
