EK EKoolant (e.g. Blood Red), any problems with this?

I am in the process of building my first loop and would really like to use the EK Blood Red Ekoolant. Has any one here used EK's Ekoolant? Did it gunk up your system or cause any pump issues? Thank you...

would recommend colored tubing, red LED to reservoir + distilled + silver coil

but i suppose that EK stuff should be ok, they recommend to use that with their blocks

I've been playing with that exact stuff (blood red EK), had it in my workstation cpu/mobo loop for about 2-3 months:



So far so good, I recently drained the coolant to see if I could see anything and it looks the same as it did when it went in. I haven't examined the internals of the cpu block yet, I'll wait a few months for that. I'm always wary of dye though because of so many others' bad experiences. I decided to try it first hand on a loop where if the parts died I wouldn't worry (old pump/res/cpu block/board). I'm a sucker for nickel plexi, and water+silver was giving me the expected "EK stain" so I figured I'd try their coolant to see if I could avoid it.

Is there colored tubing that is a little transparent and not entirely opaque like the PrimoFlex LRT is (at least the red)?

How's for taking clear tubing and trying some dye against it? Anybody attempt this with some good results?

I have seen folks use RIT dye on tubing. Over the last few years it was discussed here. Been a long time though.

The Primochill tubing isn't opaque it's transparent.

I've had two batches of primochill red in the past. Once was very but not completely opaque, one was more of a transparent pink.

I like to keep all metals the same, However I believe my barbs might be chrome plated? DD barbs that is. I have always run about a 20/1 mix of coolant to water. I just like the anti corrosion properties although technically it is probably not needed. I will have to post a picture in the next month or two when I finally tear down my 7 year old loop and we will see how it looks. I do expect some plasticizer to be trapped in the block.

Pentosin gave it a nice light blue color, but I'm thinking red coolant might just look pink when mixed so sparningly?

Thanks all, I think i'm just going to go with distilled and silver coil. I already have clear Tygon tubing so...hey, I'm just impressed that I finally got around to building a loop. Bright lights coming from the case kind-of annoy me anyway. Thanks to all that gave me info. Now, I know brass-to-copper, brass-to-brass...and so on will not leak with correctly tapped pipe threading (i.e. g1/4). But, what about chrome plated barbs on copper/brass or chrome plated barbs on Acetal water block tops...will they leak? I'm sure everyone here is using either or, you guys never use pipe tape or anything like that in the threading correct?

No need for pipe tape.. no one uses it
proper fittings in properly threaded holes is enough.. the o-ring will make a water tight seal
G1/4 is the most popular size too.. so just make sure all your fittings , rads and pump/pump tops and res are all threaded for G1/4 and you will be fine .

Wanted to throw this out there...my buddy at work said that Diesel mechanics use a red UV reactant fluid to pressure/leak test diesel lines I believe. He said it might be worth looking into. Any here tried it?

Our threads on our fittings are BSPP Parallel. They have o-rings. Tape has a propensity to CRACK acrylic parts etc due to they AIN'T made for the stress of unneeded sealant. Don't get the part about diesel mechanic stuff, never seen diesel in a WC rig. And I know a bit about that.
