HDD Cache
I just went and bought myself a 1tb Caviar Green for which I paid 85$. I got the 8mb cache version because I really don't care about performance and only care about cost and noise. I didn't even realize that there were 2 versions of the drive (8mb and 32mb).
What difference does amount of cache have on the performance of the drive? I'm just curious what I lost for not paying that extra 15%.

the cache on its own, makes almost no difference. The 32mb cache drive may have different firmware though, which can lead to differences in performance.

Its been shown over and over that in HDDs the extra cache is 2-3% extra performance.
-
remove that cache altogether and its more like 20-30% less performance
