    SFF Gaming rig.

    Hi guys,

I want to put together a small SFF pc for gaming for a friend.

This isn't really going to be anything spectacular, just need to be able to run some games.

I was looking into the Asus M3A79-CM motherboard and a AMD X3 8650 since I can get both of those for literally nothing.

What case would you guys reccomend and if so what graphics cards would fit?

I would prefer an AMD card if possible.

Now please bare in mind this is for gaming on a 17" monitor and the person will be getting this to replace a Socket A Sempron 1.3Ghz and a Radeon 9800 Pro.

Mini P180. I love that case. Not the smallest available, but great compartmentalising, noise-dampening and all-round just good.

Motherboard looks good, although I wouldn't count on huge OCing, and the X3 will be fine, particularly from a price/performance viewpoint. I'd pair those parts with 4GB of cheap DDR2, something like the Corsair -1066 kits, a VX450 and an HD4830 or 4670, depending on budget.
    Rig specs
    CPU: i7 5960X Mobo: Asus X99 Deluxe RAM: 4x4GB G.Skill DDR4-2400 CAS-15 VGA: 2x eVGA GTX680 Superclock PSU: Corsair AX1200

Do you know any Shuttle/ Lan gaming chassis that would be good?

The person I'm doing this for loves going to those. Also would a 4830 or 4760 fit in one of those?

I know thermaltake don't make the greatest cases but would a Thermaltake VF6000BWS be any good and fit all the parts?

Anyone know if the Sythe Ninja mini would fit into the Thermaltake Lanbox Lite?

Or is there any other cooler to be reccomended?

why would you skimp on the cpu, and buy aftermarket heatsink?

get a nice, reasonably cheap case, 450vx.

    add a 4850 512mb, 4gb value ram and drives.

    done.

Case need to be able to be shipped via post so I dont want an ATX at all.

Also I'm not skimping on the cpu as I am not buying it.

Also I want aftermarket cooling since it's usually better than stock.

The person I am building this for loves lans and therefor will also be moving it ALOT.

So it's no good to her if it's too heavy or big. Will make it even worse for me since she lives in another country and I need to ship this to her.

The lian li v350/1 is a pretty cool SFF as well. here->http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811112151
It can hold a 240mm rad for water cooling.
A good heatsink for the v350 or other SFF's would be the Noctua NH-U9B or the Scythe Ninja Mini.

There are some ideas for the heatsink to go with the lanbox lite here.

you'll need a CPU Cooler with a height of less than 100mm.

Thanks alot, I'll have a look. I just managed to get an ald AMD 4200+ for free so that will really help.

Now I just need to sort out what case, although the Lanbox is still a prime candidate. Specially since I've heard of the heat problems the V350 can have due to lack of an exhaust.

Thanks Clayton, I've been looking for the Coolermaster Gemini but I cant seem to find a place that sells it

It would be perfect for a small SFF case

Just had an Idea, I have a spare Phenom II 940BE HSF. I take it that thing is miles better than the stock AM2 4200's HSF.

Wouldn't that be sufficient for it and fit really any case?

This is what i suggest the nzxt rogue because it has 4 side fan intakes although it may lack harddrive cooling it can support 4 harddrives
also if you wanna go all out and mod you can take the whole bay area and put a nice screen in the center! its great case it has window and it will keep your gpu and cpu cool

    nzxt rogue all the way
side note : the hdd's can be cooled if look at the pics on newegg closely

for your cpu cooler either a that low hieght noctua cooler or the standard if it fits (if that doesn't get the smaller 1)

    300€ for:

    - Case
    - PSU
    - Graphics card
    - Hard drive
    - RAM
    - Optical drive
    - 3rd-party cooling

    Is this all? Anything else?

    That's everything really.

I'm sure withy 300 I can put together something decent.

I'm still just trying to figure would what 3rd party cooling really.

Anyone know how decent the NZXT Rogue is? Heard good things but if you've got any pics with a 3rd party cooler it would greatly help.

Alright guys I think I've got a rough Idea of what I want.

    Mobo: Asus M3A78-CM
CPU: Althon 4200+ ( I got it for free off of a friend )
HSF: Scyhte Shuriken Or Phenom II HSF ( Not sure which is best yet. )
GFX: ATI Sapphire 4670 512MB Or maybe 4830 Depending on price. ( Will also look for a decent on second had )
    Case: Silverstone Sugo SG01
    PSU: Corsair VX 450Watt
    RAM: 2GB Corsair 800MHz ( Already have )
    Optical: Asus DVD-R/RW
    HDD: WD Caviar 500GB

    Seems I've got everything

If you cannot get a HD4830, I'd buy a 9600GT instead of the HD4670. The price is almost the same and the 9600GT is a substantially better performer overall (mainly due to 256bit memory bus and higher ammount of ROPs and TMUs, shader processing should be a little bit worse though).

Unless, of course, you need the HDMI 7.1 sound from the HD4000 series. If you're connecting it to a receiver, there's no other choice.

And what about waiting a couple of weeks for the HD4770? It should be roughly $100 and the performance will top the HD4830.

Well I'll be slowly getting everything, and the GPU is last on my list.

So if the 4770 is out by then I'll snap that up
