Im looking for a good Home amplifier. I have no idea where to start, what brand, model, wattage etc.
Could you please give me some recommendations?
1) Cant be insanely expensive, as long as works with good quality is fine.
2) No weird/rare brands that can only be purchased on Europe or Asia
3) Something that will let me use car subwoofers (dont know if subs can be used at full power on home amps)
Pioneer VSX-418 is what i use, but i doubt any home amp thats decently priced will be able to support a 4ohm load. Home speakers are 8-16ohm.

I like that Pioneer, however, where would I plug in the car subwoofer? I dont see positive/negative imputs for subwoofer. Only front/sorround/center.
grab a plate amp for the subs from http://www.partsexpress.com, you dont want to drive them from a full-range receiver.

Adcom makes very good amps and can be found used if too expensive for your tastes.
Most if not all are capable of driving a 4 ohm load.
I use the GFA5500 but any of the lesser models will provide fine musical detail for any tastes.

get a 120v ac to 12v dc adaptor, and wire up a couple car audio amps.
that's what i plan to do one day when i have my own house. drop down a couple 12v lines of appropriate guage, and hope i dont start a fire

Your car subs would typically have been designed around the small car interior, which boosts the lower octaves. Put that sub into a large living area environment and u wont get the lows u hear in the car, but more a punch from 40Hz up...unless u equalize it considerably, thus losing power handling/volume.
Me thinks it's time to calculate new boxes, extend the frequency into the sub domain where u feel it...
Plate amps are easy because they have built in equalizer...but value/watts for money, u wont beat a pro-amplifier designed to drive heavy loads
