Recieved my Duron 1600MHz from China. Unfortunatly it's locked and has fake bridges on the top layer of PCB. Need to scratch them in order to get to the 'real' bridges that control the L2 cache. Before I go and unrepairably f%$ up this CPU I did some benchmarks

    System:
    AMD Duron 1600MHz (Applebred B0)
    ABIT NF7-S rev2.0 - Vdimm, Vdd mods
    2x256MB BH-5 DDR
    OCZ DDR Booster
    Seventeam V-Force 750W
    Maxtor Diamondmax 9+ 40GB IDE

    Results:
    - #2 CPUZ @ 2833.48MHz, 2.06Vcore
    - #1 SuperPI 1M: 38.500s @ 2761MHz, 2.0Vcore
    - #1 SuperPI 32M: 34m 12.907s @ 2717MHz, 2.0Vcore
    - #1 Hexus PiFast: 58.78s @ 2706MHz, 2.0Vcore
    - #1 Wprime 32: 1m 0.921s @ 2751MHz, 2.0Vcore
    - #1 Wprime 1024: 32m 47.219s @ 2728MHz, 2.0Vcore

    Best OC regards,
    Niko

As far as I see you are 3rd in CPU-Z. Great job anyway

    Yeah, well, 2nd place is typo/bug (it's 600MHz Duron @ 1.2-something GHz)

    Thanks Oskaliber!

Man eeeeek, Niko you're tearing it up buddy ! I think that everybody appreciate the effort you're putting in these results, it's just outstanding seeing that much passion for old school hardware at this specific period of time, with all these PIIs and i7s screaming here and there.

    Congratulations

tiborr, more voltage doesn't help to go higher with the duron?

Thank you, kind fellas! Yeah, K7 benching sure if fun, but - let's be honest - some benchmarks take a taaaaaaaaad too much time. Gotta check my electricity bill next month, I'm pretty sure it's not going to be nice!

Not really, after ~2.2V weird crap starts happening. mr.Mulder & mrs.Scully would sure be interested With the latest Duron 950MHz I have tested I come to a conclusion that the optimal voltage (for useful benchmarking, not for making suicide shots in CPU-Z) is around 2.08-2.11V. Anything higher and it becomes impossible to get even 175MHz FSB stable. At 2.2Vcore ~ 170MHz is a serious limit with this motherboard

So, to sum-up my benching session with Duron 1600MHz, XP1700+, XP2000+ (both Palominos - 2000+ has f$%ked up L2 cache and it only works on 64kB L2) & Duron 950MHz:

maaan this thread brings back memories....
that chipset heatsink haha... yeah i remember that one...
wasnt it on the nb and the sb had no heatsink by default?
that heatsink was such a POS hahha... a chunk of alu with some lines cut out of it... damn it got so hot even at stock speed and stock vdd...

mmmhhhh good memories... those were the days man, those were the days...
70$ athlonXP clocked to 2.3ghz on air with 225fsb and DDR450 2-2-2 ... hahahah i remember everybody hunting for bh5 and bh6 back then... i had a few gb of those sticks... and lastviking killed everybody else with his 270-300fsb and DDR3 600+ 222 scores... oh yeah... those were good times

back then water was extreme cooling, and only a few people in the world went subzero with chilled water and compressor cooling and almost nobody used ln2...
oh yeah... those were fun days...

    congrats!
    very nice results!

    LOL

This thread makes it seem like I have never been away

I can still remember getting a sample CPU from AMD and getting it to 3ghz on the promethia I think that was one of my first posts on XS
    Happy days.

I still have a box full of socket A boards, most EPox but I also have some MSI and Abit boards. If anybody in the UK wants them for playing with or spares PM me and you can have them for the cost of postage. I dont know how many of them work, some were killed with voltmod experiements or condensation but some of them were good clockers.

My favorite socket A overclocking was Epox 8K7A+ which I had upto 180fsb

Congratulations on the records! Very nice work.

Heh, yeah good memories. Don't remember how many PSU's I killed OC'ing Socket A's but it was more than a couple. I never killed a CPU or a board though for some reason. Loved my IDYHA stepping Barton 2400+ mobile and BH-5 sure was the shiznit back then. Things sure have changed.

huh? how? i had a crappy noname 250W psu and an fsp 350W with modded rails...
the 250W died but thats more cause i did some crazy TEC experiments with it

try lowering the voltage and multiplier - start from 200x11.5 1.6V and work your way with volts

yeah howevver i already tried what was the max busspeed for the cpu and it topped out at around 225... so i thought i needed the higher multi (and diferent multi's also dont make a diference in max clockspeed)
