Exclamation What this section is for (i.e. why you can't start threads here)

If you are new to overclocking and have a question or need help, this is NOT the correct section to be posting in.

    Please post in either:

    AMD Info and Support

    or

    Intel Info and Support

    as appropriate.

General results you'd like to show, or more advanced questions/discussion should go in either the AMD or Intel sections.

The Xtreme Overclocking section is for top-end EXTREME overclocks and large achievements. Generally if you aren't at least on dry ice, this is the wrong section. If you have an absolutely EXCEPTIONAL air, water or single stage overclock, then it's acceptable.

    Thanks for keeping XS organized.

As of right now, we have constituted a post-count restriction for this section. If you have content that meets the above criteria and want to start a thread here but lack the minimum post count, please PM me about it.

Seems a lot of people not respect this simple rule :

The Xtreme Overclocking section is for top-end EXTREME overclocks and large achievements.
Please start to post in the right section and not post everything on XS Overclocking !!!

Please help to keep to XS organized !!

I also would like to see all "<clock> +<chip> on air!!"-post deleted from this forum.
It so pathetic and shows nothing else than a "lucky chip" and the "nerv" to give it n.nn Volts often with all but one core disabled.
This is xs.org->*Xtreme overcklocking* no "I was lucky in the chip lottery".
Keep these posts in AMD/Intel section as per "chief" Gautam advice.

I think it's about time to end the "e8xxx/i7 at xxxx MHz on air" mania we've seen in here lately. In other words - great job by OP who made this post!

I think his point is that any air clock takes very little skill, whereas even just holding a certain temperature with LN2 takes an amount of skill.

A minimum post count would keep alot of the nubs who don't pay attention out, but unfortunately it would create a problem for legitimate posts from users who just joined the forum to post their relevant results. It could be done with some sort of mod approval system, but that would deter many users from even bothering to come to xtremesystems. Unfortunately, no matter how many times you guys post these threads, users just won't listen...

Adding a screen with the message "Is your benchmark result really Xtreme? If not, please find the correct section for your thread" and a continue button on the bottom would perhaps help a bit.

Really, the requirement of extreme cooling is the major qaulifier. I mean, if you get a great chip than that's another story. And actually that's kinda what bugs me about the whole extreme clocking thing. It should be broken down into Extreme OC - Dice/ LN2 / Water / Air. That would keep some of the goofy traffic from making it here. I guess my point is, My 5.2 E8600 on water is just as impressive as a 6.3 on LN2... I'm far more impressed with a 24/7 OCCT....Prime whatever stable high OC with low temps and volts than an LN2 blast... But that's just me. Back on topic though, I made the same mistake when I first signed up. I think people post here with questions because they feel the experts are here and anywhere else joe plumber might be answering your questions.

Also, I agree (BUt don't necessarily like) the idea of post count. It gives newbies time to learn the forum structure. At the same time one of the best first posts on this site was a 5.2 air E8600.

The bigger problem is not people posting air overclocks in this section; it's even worse.

It's people posting basic questions and asking how to troubleshoot in this section. In other words, they never even bothered to read the guidelines or learn what this section is even about. Every day there are an average of 5-10 "how do I overclock my Nehalem" or "how do I overclock my E8400" threads that need to get moved. Just blatantly wrong content for this section.

yep, but thats not the worst. I tell the OP politley that its not the right section for this, go to Intel support. The worst is when people continue to post to try and help. Now i commend helping but let the thread die or the mods move it first. My 2 cents...3,4 nehalem is sooo not xtreme lol

Not a bad idea actually. People will still manage to do it but at least it should decrease the threads by a fair amount... Also, I find nothing wrong with air cooled threads, 4.9ghz i7 or 5.3ghz e8600s are still damn impressive, though maybe not xtreme from a cooling standpoint, its still an xtreme oc.

Exactly, but I must moderate myself a bit.

Of course it may take skillz to OC a E8400 to 5.n "on air!!!", but define "on air".

It could be me sitting on the porch with my rig here in cold Norway, -25 outside doin a "CPU-Z screenie" or SuperPi1M.
Which almost is like using subzero cooling in a tempered room.
    Anyhow:
If you're lucky with a chip it will OC far regardless of cooling as long as you give it (and it will respond) to Volts.. and it does not overheat (delta fans on a good heatpipe more than equals good water setup).

*Extreme* OC and cooling is what I expect to see and apreciate in this forum.
Any other results are welcome in the Intel / AMD fourms.

Heres is another example of post that should no go in xtreme overclocking and have to be moved - http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=220900

Please post in the right section and not everything in Xtreme Overclocking or we have to take more drastic actions

    Thanks!

You guys should read some of the PM's I get from my fan club telling me to take my extreme air results to the XOC section.

I will just link them to this thread from now on.......

Extreme air results are borderline okay, strong preference is to keep them in AMD/Intel. If they're truly exceptional then this section is fine.

This warning is mostly targeted to the newbie questions which get posted in here in abundance. From now on they will be deleted without notice. Don't say we didn't warn you...

Minimum post count now in place, 100 posts required to start a thread in this section. If you have over 100 posts and still incorrectly place a thread here, to be blunt, you should know better, so it will be deleted without notice.

Anyone with under 100 posts who has a legitimate xtreme overclock can pm myself or Pedro Rocha (I hope he doesn't get mad at me for volunteering him! ) and we can post their thread for them. (And also review the content beforehand...)
