Kingston SSDNow 32GB (Intel X25-E) SSD Review

    Review Here.

I've been playing around with this and I realise that some people have been complaining of a slowdown, so I *think* I've found a fix that doesn't involve losing any data or completely wiping the drive I'd be interested to hear from anyone with an X25-E or Kingston SSDNow E-Series that's suffering the slowdown and wants to try and fix it

P.S. Go easy, it's my first SSD Review

7 pass DoD on flash disk? Are they trying to prematurely kill it? Simple cell erase with 0 (zero) writing after it would be enough for the same effect. 10 times faster with just the same effect.

Good review.. but what is the fix for fragmentation? To me it looks like you are wiping the drive just like others have prosed. What am I missing?

It appears the drives aren't all that immune to fragmentation after all.

    Nice!
But your HDtune write bench shows 74gb raptor highlighted. (or, you have one fast raptor, custom built )

I hope you'll get the chance to compare it or maybe even intels "M" drive to OCZ's Vertex!

As I say, it's just a workaround, I haven't seen anyone else offer a fix on the E series drives and the fix that Intel offer means that you have to wipe the drive, this way you can do it with your O/S still on there and it wipes the free space - it's still at the experimental stage at the moment and that's why I wanted to hear from other X25-E owners to see hoe they go with it.

I also tried different types of 1 pass and three pass, but had the best success with the 7 pass DoD wipe - As you can see from the results, the drive had slowed considerably so it was worth a try

Oh haha, good spot, I think I must have caught it with the mouse pointer when doing the screenies, I'll fix it now, thanks
