    Only five Q9400s? I'd like to see 10 in a single chassis with 1-2 PSUs. It would be even nicer (for crunchers) if the ITX boards were the ones with the onboard CF slot--so that nobody has to worry about having hard drives spin, instead just having a bunch of 16-32GB CF cards. Run XP64 or Linux 64-bit without a swap file...

    My toys:
    Asus Sabertooth X58 | Core i7-950 (D0) | CM Hyper 212+ | G.Skill Sniper LV 12GB DDR3-1600 CL9 | GeForce GTX 670-2048MB | OCZ Agility 4 512GB, WD Raptor 150GB x 3 (RAID0), WD Black 1TB x 2 (RAID0) | XFX 650W CAH9 | Lian-Li PC-9F | Win 7 Pro x86-64
    Gigabyte EX58-UD3R | Core i7-920 (D0) | Stock HSF | G.Skill Sniper LV 4GB DDR3-1600 CL9 | Radeon HD 2600 Pro 512MB | WD Caviar 80GB IDE, 4TB x 2 (RAID5) | Corsair TX750 | XClio 188AF | Win 7 Pro x86-64

    Ummm Bob ... unless each node had a metric a$$load of RAM they NEED a swap file/partition to run BOINC.

    4GB DDR2 800 is plenty, I'd think.

    Nice and cheap in the USA, and some can even be overclocked. I think minimum is $45 for a board--if not it's those $60-120 GeForce 7100 or G/Q45 boards from Intel. Maybe even pin-mod compatible.

    I have this board: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813500012

    It's pretty nice but the NB gets VERY hot, even at stock settings only running a Celeron 430.

    Even with a single E5200, they're awesome prices for tiny little boxes. Heck--seeing how they're doing this so easily, an E5200 + GeForce 7050/7100 + 2-4GB DDR2 is in range. But again, I'd like to find a motherboard with a CF reader instead of a hard drive. The interesting part is this is the type of crunching project a lot of students could afford... now if only this motherboard was available... on a side note--the Zotac site says that all those i610/i630-ITX boards are C2Q compatible. So $45 for one sounds like a really good deal.

    Just use a CF -> SATA/PATA adapter.

    True, but it's added bulk. Heck--could install Windows on a USB stick... 8GB sticks are pretty cheap now. The question is now where to get 20/24-pin ATX and 4-pin 12V splitters.
