    PowerplayLowPower3d fix inside

well i'm reading around and have seen some pretty good cases for this powerplay 2d bug being the reason we drop frames at certain points in games.. i want to disable powerplay altogether... if someone can modify the latest 3870 bios i'll give it a go with all 3 modes @3d speeds. maybe we could at least raise the 2d speed and see if it helps, because if this isnt the problem it would be handy to rule it out of the equasion.... thanks for any assistance...

I made this bios that has 3d clocks and voltages at the 2d modes. Works fine except overdrive. You can overclock with rivatuner though. Performance improved a lot in Crysis DX10. The bios is from a sapphire card.
As always try at your own risk. Feedback is welcome.

Thanks alot Daidalos I flashed my sapphires cards with HD3870_fixfan_unlock.bin
which fixed the 862 bug and fixed the fanspeed is this what your bios is based off?And whats the problem with overdrive cause im on vista 64 and ocing both cards in rivatuner is a no go.

The bios is v.073 and is unlocked(no 862 bug). I don't know about the fan speeds because i am using thermaltake duorb.
Overdrive just does not work. I am on vista to with crossfire so i know about cf oc problems with rivatuner.
I am working on a new version with 700/1125 2d clocks and 875/1300 3d clocks. I hope i can find a way to make overdrive work though.

Heres the bios I used http://www.mvktech.net/components/co...fan_unlock.bin
why are going to set 2dmode to 700 instaed of 777?
And could you create one with 3dclock at stock cause I would be worried to flash a bios with 875 core im still using stock cooler.

I modified the bios you gave me with stock 3d clocks and volts at 2d mode. Try it and tell me how it works.

EDIT: Overdrive seems to work with this one.

all you guys with the PowerPlay problem are running Vista? i heard somewhere else that Vista doesn't allow drivers to change hardware settings? something like that. it's supposedly the reason why so many Vista users are having this issue. Vista causes the driver to crash when it tries to change fanspeed.

Yes the clocks are as you said. As for voltage, 3870 has 1,25 in 2d mode and 1.33 in 3d mode. I made them both 1.33. You can go higher than 1.33 with bios, it seems to reject higher values. But there are voltmods for that.

It still goes to 2d mode in crysis but 2d mode is 777 core with this bios. That is the point of it.
And as i said overdrive works with the second bios.

Yes 2d clocks will stay at 777 when you OC. But still it wont slow you down as much as 300Mhz.
Changing fanspeed probably is possible but i don't know how...

Is anyone experiencing this issue on anything better than air cooling? I wonder if it may have to do with throttling under high heat load....

i'm currently running the fanfix BIOS with no overclock, so i doubt it's a heat issue. all my stuff is in an Antec 900, so temps are good. haven't seen my GPU go over 63° C since i installed the fanfix BIOS.

Thanks for this bios. It works well.

I wish powerplay didn't kick in like it is but either way this will get me by till ATI comes up with a proper solution.

    I'm off to play crysis...

looking at pictures of that GeCube card, i'm not sure the BIOS is something i'd be interested in. the card has two heatpipes and what appears to be a fan that moves more air than my reference card. my cards would probably run hot with that BIOS. probably worth trying for people with aftermarket cooling though.

    @Daidalos
I tried the no2dv1.bin bios and it works perfectly man.
My cards had 0.67 and 0.73 bios and the 0.73 manages fan speed very well.
I'm looking forward for your NEW bios releases.I think 875/1300 is a little on the high side so if you could make one 850/1200 it would be great.

    Thanks a lot.....
