Why I Sold my Crosshair II

yep, tonight i sold my Crosshair II Mobo, after a little deliberation, i thought about my upgrade path, i am going for a nvidia 295 sometime soon, so wont need an SLI enabled Mobo.

so before i started fitting it i thought i would sell it and get another mobo. as the quest for Sli Nvidia chipset was no more, i had a look around to see what was on offer, but to be honest, after a quik convo i had with chew* the other day in a post, i knew what board it would be

i also wanted something 'new' and 'exciting' with some 'features' and so on,

anyways to the point, after reading some reviews and my convo with chew* (and also the benches they have been brinngin us all)

i have went with the ASUS M4A79 Deluxe it arrives on wedensday morning

    http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1...64&modelmenu=1

all i need is some time to get it together and bench my now few week old 940 properly.

some random pics and a link (to pad the post out...lol)

I think you will enjoy it, Pay close attention to ram settings and take your time with them in memtest. Once dialed in it will be a solid performer.

The gigabyte is nice bang for buck but I immediately knew this board had more potential just playing with it for a few hours.

I really need to get off my butt fire it back up and start tweaking it but for now i'm taking a break for a couple days then I will fix the mounting issues, slap a TRUE on it and see what its reall made of.

I agree, i dont think i will see much differance to the crosshair II, in terms of clocks, i might get a little maybe 100 mhz, i just like the board itself, it seems to have a couple of new features, that might be useful.

also i like the fact this board is just out, the crosshair has been around for a while now. and i have also been reading about some ram issues.

i am an OCZ fan all the way, i had some crucial for a while, but they failed me, i RMA'd them for more OCZ, i have had never had a problem with them.

but i was reading that the crosshair was having some hassle with them

thats all by the by, this board will have 2 x 2 gig of 1066 OCZ Platinum and a Phenom 940

    i cant wait

Their should be an "official" M4A79 thread. I first found this forum because of the Abit IP35 Pro thread that had tons of info, it would be cool to have a similar M4A79 thread. I'm also curious if other people are having the same issue as I am. I set my vcore on this board to 1.325, the HW monitor shows ~1.37 and PC Probe shows ~1.40v.

Yah I hate thread titles like that, I find a lot of misinformation in threads like that as well. I planned on sharing settings, problems, workarounds although I probably won't find everyday use quirks, least not at this point in time.

Sounds great guys, also Chew* what do you mean dial those ram settings.

I just got my M4A79 Deluxe and my Mushkin ram is on the fritz, giving out over 29k errors before it even reaches 10% in Memtest.

Either my ram is beyond hope or my motherboard is doing this?

    hey thanks

the tank of AMD Mobo's lol, well i sold my crosshair for £150, i bought it for £166, so lost £16 on the deal.

it was brand new in the box, only opened to have a look, the thing is i didnt need the sound card either, i have a SB X-Fi here with front panel.

nightmare, i think he means you got to be specific about those ram timings, across the board, and not gor for any auto options (although auto will be god for 800 mhz say, once into 1066+ well thats a differant story

the next step is overclocking via AOD 3.0 :p
Adobe is working on Flash Player support for 64-bit platforms as part of our ongoing commitment to the cross-platform compatibility of Flash Player. We expect to provide native support for 64-bit platforms in an upcoming release of Flash Player following the release of Flash Player 10.1.

I was messing around with timings volts everything, but the ram wont let me do anything.

Got some cheap 2GB 2x1GB corsair 800 and my system is stable running and actually working.

I'll see what I can clock the system too with these.

    quik update,

after having a look at the PWM cooling section i thought that it rang a bell, it looks very familiar to my old skt 939 ASUS Sli board, i new i had the old fan somewhere, (we keep everything ehh? missus hates it) so i dug it out,

and low and behold, fits like a glove, even has the two grooves on the heatsink to 'lock' the fan to it

just a clean up on it and its good to go, ohh and a cable, since i chopped it off
