    core i7

Has anyone made or come up with an evap hold down bracket yet for the new core i7 platform which will be with us next month?

There is a little flaw, but easily correctable. Socket 1366 supported

Ya, I'll probably need a new evap head too...

I would think that the evaporator head would be the same ... or does it have to be slightly larger diameter?

Also does anyone have data on the thermal requirements of Core i7? Will a default LS be able to cope with the load without modification. I quickly looked at a data sheet some time back and it seems that the Core i7 Quad has the same thermal load as a Core 2 Duo. If so it would seem that the LS is tuned perfectly for it, but would need to only change the connection bracket.

You could still use the same heads we've been using for years as the die hasn't gotten much larger. You don't have to cover the entire IHS, just the area over the die. A default LS is rated for 180W I believe which is under the estimated 130w TDP of Bloomfield so yes, you'll be fine but you won't have much overclocking headroom.

    and about evap size
current evaps should hold nehalem without any problems
but if you use larger evap, for example 45-50mm diameter instead 38-40mm
you will get lower and more stable temps, migh be even 5*C or better on higher loads

Ok, so I have a white mounting bracket with a lot of holes, will it work or will I need to get a new one? It looks like the ones in Duniek's photo above. I have a Jin unit, I'm not sure what evap head he used and he very hard to get a hold of to find out or if he will make a different mounting bracket if need. Thanks.

I know it's a very makeshift mounting setup, but looking at the above a modded SS will struggle badly with i7 and a stock vapo like mine, well forget about it?

I'm not the most clued in regarding this stuff, so forgive me if I'm jumping to the wrong conclusions.

This review is copyright of madshrimps. If there's an issue with quoting from the review then obviously I'll delete it.

But then I dug a bit around in my room, and found the Nventiv Mach 2 Phase Change cooling (What is phase change cooling ?). This unit has been refilled with R507 and modded by Jort for a better performance. So it should outperform a Mach 2 GT.

Edit: there was an issue with madshrimps and copyright. Apologies for that. A PM would have sufficed though

During the overclocking we experienced some difficulties keeping the system stable. When finally even the phase change cooling had a hard time running the setup, we took a closer look.
While stressing the 4 cores / 8 threads using the phase change, we saw temperatures going up from -46° C to almost 0° C. The mounting wasn't the best, neither was the insulation, but this was the proof that we had a good contact with the core. Did the Mach 2 pass out on us ?
We also did a very last minute test with the Intel QX9770, paired with i-ram and an Nvidia 280 GTX videocard. By just stressing the processor we measured a 221 watt power consumption. Idle this was 175 watt. So stressing the cpu gives us an extra 56 watt in default configuration. While this was over 70 watt for the Core i7. (177-103)

At 1.55 Vcore the entire setup is using almost as much as 450 watt. Considering the low end card used, and which was kept idle, we have a 290 watt raise in consumption. Now we understand why the phase change had problems keeping this chip more or less stable.
Maybe have another go with those links. They do seem to be a bit slow today.

    Cheers

The current one is clear plastic. with the corners notched out. look like I ca use a top and bottom plate [if I can remove the top plate to put the new one above it. Will I need a new c- clip, and where is it located on the evap head? Thanks guys.

Yes you will need a new O-ring. It is just below the colar and just above the surface area.

You will need a pair of O-ring pliers to remove and add a new one.

i7 mounting can be bought here: http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/...d.php?t=125110
