New Corsair Ram cooler on sale - CMXAF2

    Edit: Put a mini-review below

Well it's not totally new but it was only paired with RAM kits before.

Now it is alone and on sale at NCIX in North America.

    http://www.ncixus.com/products/36390/CMXAF2/Corsair/

Should be pretty slick. The red decal will be promptly removed and it's too tall for my ram.... Will need some modding.

    Check your favorite vendor!

    NCIX listing is incorrect.

CMXAF2 comes in Dominator branding, with blue labels.

Red labels are exclusive to Dominator GT line only. Airflow unit which comes with Dominator GT will not be sold separately.

    Thanks

Argh, that's exactly what I did not want to hear. I was really hoping to get the red cooler to sit in my bloodrage. I just can't see buying a GT kit at the moment since I will just be gaming with this rig, not doing crazy mem benching. Come on Bachus, lets work something out for your buddies at XS

FWIW - my only buying experience with NCIXUS.com sucks. I have asked 2x now for an RMA and they haven't even bothered to respond with a no. I'll never use them again.

At least the giant blue sticker from the first version didn't make its way onto the top of this one.

The red one looks cooler than the blue one. Would be nice if someone sold it.

I think they are 60mm fans, same size as the OCZ ram cooler.

Here are some pictures and my perceptions.....a miniature review.

Look at all that space... Boooooo!

It's a straight forward product with no surprises really.

    PRO's:
    - Moves a really nice amount of air while keeping noise just below my annoyance threshold (I like to keep my 120mm's at about 1300rpm and no more.) The cooler moves slightly more air than the OCZ XTC cooler
    - Well made
    - Mounting is secure
    - Sleeved cable is a nice touch
    - Solved OCZ XTC's design mistake where lower screws touch the top of the GPU PCB.

    CON's:
    - The Ram cooler is very tall, so in a stock configuration it can interfere with the CPU coolers airflow. It will need modding. Who the hell needs 5 story tall ram sinks? Corsair should consider selling this fan with tall and short configurations.

I was hanging out for one of these but looking at the price vs the 3x40 ... I'm not so sure.

They are now listed with the Aussie distributor and street price I imagine will be around AUD$65, considering the AX1 is about $45ish, pretty big price jump.

I'd be interested to see a comparison of old vs new though.

And I agree with the OCZ comments, their side-screw design was completely FUBAR'ed for most of the Gigabyte P35 range, even putting in a 'normal' flathead screw, it STILL touched the gfx.

I hate to tell you this, Battle Rattle... but I think you have it installed incorrectly. I believe the supports go -over- the DIMM levers! Of course it'll still be really tall, but the Corsair RAM it is made for is pretty tall too. My old style unit barely clears it.

You sir, are correct. It did lower it 2mm....Negligible.

It is made for the tall Corsair stuff but... Corsair also makes low profile kits. My general point is that if both tall and short clips were available, it would make the product more attractive.

NCIX is based in Canada but they have a US website. If you are waiting for something else then I do not know. I checked my usual suspects that I normally shop at but i did not see it in stock. I didn't want to wait.

I got mine yesterday and I'm disappointed by the fans they used, I never hear so much bearing noise in any fan. Even when at full speed you can still hear the bearing and when you undervolt it's a lot louder than the OCZ cooler (but it also moves considerably more air at 12V). If you like it silent and run your other 120mm fans under 1000 RPM this thing will probably be the loudest part in your system even if you undervolt it.
I'm getting some Yate Loon 60x60x25mm fans, I hope these are somewhat decent and will make the thing actually usable.

what is the thickness on the fans that come with the cooler?
i ask because i too thought it would be cool when i order one to replace the fans with some led fans butttt... the only 60mm led fans are 25mm thick and from pictures i've seen of the cooler i cant tell how thick the fans are.
    are they 10, 15 or 25mm?
