My IFX-14 does very good with low and medium RPM. In a 22C to 23C room I could run my Q6600 @ 3.6GHz under 100% load with only 750rpm. The temps didn't go above 68C and that was with the 100C TJ. max.

how low is your "ultra low output" fan?

for size, shape and weight I'd go for the Thermalright HR-01 Plus

Maybe that Thermolab Baram or whatever will be good, no idea on availability though.

Is this going to replace the Thermaltake V1 or is this for some entirely different setup? Just asking, since it might inspire some new ideas here.

I'm also looking for a heatsink that would perform well in a low airflow scenario. The HR-01 PLUS seems like a good candidate. It has a wide fin spacing which helps a lot when the airflow is on the low side. It has no fan included, so you'll need to find one that suits your individual needs.

Silent PC Review had some nice results with this heatsink using the standard 120mm Nexus Real Silent fan (Link to the article). I hold the SPCR reviews in high regard, but I recommend looking for others as well, for comparison.

Thermalright has also prepared a fan duct specifically for the HR-01 variants to help in transferring the hot air straight out of the case. This may also help in reducing the CPU temperature by a few extra degrees. These may be tricky or even impossible to install in some more exotic cases, though.

One drawback I noticed with the HR-01 PLUS is that orienting it "correctly" (positioning it for front-to-back airflow instead of bottom-to-top) on an AMD AM2+ motherboard requires an extra S-clip accessory that needs to be purchased separately. Also the price for the heatsink and fan (and possibly s-clip and fan duct) is a bit high.

Currently, the HR-01 PLUS is on the top of my list, but I might change my mind if something better turns up.

With 1k rpm fans, does the HR01-Plus give better temps than the TRUE120ex ?

well idk, I'm planning on buying a xigmatek 120mm lad fan ( too cool ) and downvolt it with a fan controller. I hope in this way I'll get performances, silence, coolness

yes I'm planning on replacing the V1 with Hr-01 in order to obtain a silent heatsink yet capable of good performances.

I've read that article too, that's why I'm interested to it

Thanks for the review, by the looks of it the difference starts to come out at 7v but with a 2c difference, at 5v at 5c. IMHO, not worth the cost of getting the HR-01Plus as i was expecting on a 7v/5v the HR03-Plus to perform like 5-6c better alteast.
