You need to give more details, do you want to use 1 or two graphics cards. Do you want 2 core or quad core. But the best value at the moment is the Q9650 with the price drop.

If you have 1600, it would be silly to buy a last gen chip when you can obviously afford current tech. Core i7 920 is what you want. For 1600 bucks you can build a rippingly fast Core i7 system. Core 2 Quad should ONLY be recommended to those with major budget constraints and never to those building a complete new rig with over 1500 bucks.

    Agreed.

I would reccomend something at about:

    Core I920
    Asus P6t deluxe
    Silverstone Tj07
    Ultra x3 1000W/ Corsair HX1000
Corsair dominator triple channel 3gigs 1600mhz
    GTX 285/ GTX295

Roughly about 1200 if i have calculated right

yes; i was on the verge of getting a q9650 with the price reduction...
but the 920i7 with integrated mem controller...also tri channel ddr3...dont look backwards; look forwards.
    option for sli OR cf.

you paying a bit of a premium for the extra features though.

    q9650
    p45 mobo and 4GB's of ddr2 1066
cheap as chips; get yourself a nice lcd with the change or whatever.

save the rest of the money for i5

Your post was already answered in the last thread.
Was it not good enough for you or something?

    What part of :

did you not agree with? Though I think thats not enough RAM though.
Seriously if the rest isn't good enough for you, I don't know what is.
Plus, if you bother to take some time to search (and futuremark has good posts about gaming rigs too), you would see that this is a pretty decent build.
If you like ATI, you can wait for the next refresh part from ATI (single card if you want single), their refresh cards should be coming out soon. Otherwise its GTX285 for you.

I would get 3x2GB of corsair or crucial RAM instead of 3x1 GB, though.

And posting multiple threads asking the same thing is not liked very much, BTW.

PSU is overkill any decent brand 700-850 watt, but if you got the cash go for the 1000watt version. Vidcard depending on ya monitor I would opt for the 285... it has more than enough power agaib if money isn't an issue go for the max and opt for 4870X2 or 295...

Totally agree on the ram 3gb is not enough (for benching yeah) surely with Vista the more the merrier
Question : Why do some overclockers switch into d*ckmode when money is involved

Remark : They call me Pro Asus Saaya yupp, I agree

Nothing wrong with the above quoted,

Although I would Go for the 295 and Have the rampage II x58 board.

And Would get a minimum of a 850w Modular Corsair PSU You most liely could run less but for what you save your aswell to have it if you can find 1000w at a good price go for it.

There are things we don't know here. Does this guy need a monitor, an OS, keyboard, mouse, optical drives, ect. All that adds to his budget, so I definately wouldn't suggest him getting a tj07. Maybe something cheaper like a cosmos 1000.

Personally, with a new build, I'd do an i7 in a heartbeat.......

    i7 920
    Asus P6T Deluxe motherboard
    Mushkin DDR3-1600 3 x 2GB RAM (the black ones.......)
    GTX 285 or HD4870 X2
Western Digital Black 1TB hard drive

As for case, depends upon whether you're watercooling or air cooling........water, I'd definitely go with the Silverstone TJ07 case.....air cooling, a whole host of great cases at $150 or more, if you want to spend the $$ there.......

Way too many other variables to consider....as mentioned, cooling is a big deciding factor in my mind anyway..........

Then do you want a Blu-Ray player or recorder or can you do without one?

Monitor? If yes, I'd go at least a 24" LCD........minimum.

    And on and on..........

I agree almost 100% but i would recommend taking a look at the Foxconn bloodrage mobo also its comparable price but imho a much better board for overclocking, and swap the gfx card for an asus gtx295 its the single most dominant graphics card on the market
    Antec 1200
    Foxconn Bloodrage
    Kingwin Mach 1 1000w
    Asus 295gtx
    Western Digital Caviar black 1tb
    Intel i7 920 OC'd to 3.4ghz
    OCZ Gold 6g DDR3@1554
    Vista Ultimate
